Q: Im trying the best settings for recording to find, so I can use the thing as a VCR. Any suggestions? or do those controls (contrast, saturation, brightness, etc.) also affect the recording?

If you're curious, I just did a little test: hooked up a DVD player to the card's video-in, and used the Digital Video Essentials DVD to adjust the controls. After the test, here's what I came up with:
Brightness: 104
Contrast: 101
Saturation: 127
Hue: 131
Personally, I thought that was too dark, so I bumped the brightness up a little more. Looks like it might come up a little too red as well, but that might be my monitor. I will just have to make a recording and see what happens.

Interesting. If no-one replies to this, Id try over in the Video section. Just dont mention ATI/Nvidia or SM 3.0 or you're going to need a flameproof suit.
I definitely had to tweak my PVR-150 to get it looking right… was WAY too washed out at the default settings. I set it up through BeyondTV itself, though, so I'm not sure if the settings are comparable…

I use a 200Gb HD for my capture/games/mp3 collection. Space isnt an issue for me either although I am going to crop some of what I record and burn it to DVD (if thats legit which I guess it is unless I rent/sell etc.) so I can watch it on a Widescreen TV from time to time.
Football matches (what Americans call soccer) I can only watch on my PC because my parents complain. However, some days watching football on a widescreen TV with mates and alcohol cannot be beaten, especially reminiscing over the classic matches.
Hope someone responds. If they dont, we can just talk/bump this up until someone does

I shoved everything that looked like it affected looks up to maximum and I record using DVD Extra-Long Play.
Picture quality comes out quite nice although Ive only ever used my PC to display things.
Using a WinTV-PVR 250 by the way.
Would be handy to have some hints on this matter though.
I have a 250 here as well. I use DVD-Standard-play; I have a 3rd hard drive (160GB) in my computer that I can use solely for capture, so space isn't an issue
. I had it set up very nicely at one point; unfortunately I had to re-install a bunch of stuff not too long ago, and I forgot to write the settings down. Dang it.
