Q: Have Dlink DI-704P router, my cable modem can easily do Roadrunner.
I April 1 or so steps like:
1) WAN port connect the cable modem DLink router
2) Ethernet adapter is connected to the back of my PC using of CAT5e cable, I have one of the four LAN ports on the DI-704p
3) The LED for the specific local Ethernet port light and gives a good connection
4) TCP / IP to set automatically
5) I can see my ip address from drop-down menu with winipcfg since using Windows98. I have two choices PPP adapter with an IP address or my Linksys One. Of course I choose Linksys One. No, that is not listed DLink, as shown in the Quick Guide instructions.
Here the first step is to get down!
6) Open the browser and type address, such as IPS website says. Well, the errors! I dont have access to this setup so far to do that! so annoying. It goes on the dlink web configuration page, but I can not stand. I have no web access.
I not even go back to using my roadrunner (pre router), unless I run a self-installable CD that roadrunner it.
Any help appreicated this first timer to network problems. Other than this I am very excited that I put this new PC together myself, and waited forever ram 1066 parts come out. All I wanted was for the PC not to explode when I finally started and not only honor but first came right to try. hehe
Just latter step gives this game box etc
thanks much
guy
Best Answer: you can go to pcpitstop which is an online testing site.
They will test your system for free and you don't need to register as a member, you have the option to opt out and just run their free scan
The scan will report results and will include sugestions on how to improve
or update if needed.
The only catch is that they will try to convince you to buy stuff from them to improve your system or fix it,of course, but the you don't need too.
Their scan is quite accurate and will give you all the info yopu need to improve or find flaws in your system.
I have been recommending this site to those having difficulties finding
in troubleshooting their systems. Trust me you will find out from the scan all you need to make it better.
And yes it is a secure site and they won't bother you after the scan
if you don't buy anything from them.
Re:Thanks Astaroth33. I indeed forgot to mention about assigning a different IP addy.
guy: Glad you got it running.

Thank you so much guy, someone invest in this guy, he know is stuff!~ hehe
I am browsing web right now thru my router thanks to you. Last setup is configuring new pc next to me thru router as well but I bit nervous, we see how it goes, thanks muchly~
Don't forget to assign this second pc a different ip address than the first one. Instead of 192.168.0.2, use 192.168.0.3. ![]()

Re:you didn't say if you were using a crossover cat5 cables or a straight ones, or where.
i have to use a straight from modem to router and crossovers from router to switch to comps.
good luck
Re:guy:
in your web browser, type http://192.168.0.1
Your router should use that as the default address.
If you continue having problems, do this to your Windows 98 box:
1-Right click on Network Neighborhood and select Properties.
2-Scroll down and find the TCP/IP properties for your Linksys network card.
3-Set IP Address to 192.168.0.2 and subnet mask to 255.255.255.0
4-Set Default Gateway to 192.168.0.1
5-Set DNS Servers to 192.168.0.1. If you know the Time Warner DNS server IP addresses, type those IP addresses in instead of 192.168.0.1.
Reboot and try it again.
