Firefox 1.5 beta 1 = 1.07 and unstable garbage? [last move] [firefox]

Q: Update: I have an uninstall only this time I suggested guy and my profile removed. All seems good. Guy and thanks everyone for your suggestions. Just goes to show you learn something every day! ************************************* ************

* **************************

Ive use for a while now and all of the upgrades I have not had any problems, but 1.06 was a disaster. Ive tried the 1.5 beta 1 and 1.07 on a clean install on two different systems. The results are the same. Either crashes or not properly sealed and ask me for a profile relaunch.

I because I think its time to look for a different browser. I was thinking of opera “as it is now Fri Any other suggestions?

I guess it's time to look for another browser. I was thinking Opera 'cause it's free now. Any other suggestions?

I finally gave up on FF. It was crashing all the time on 3 different computers. Funny thing is I had everyone at work switch to FF and now I'm on Opera…

When I tried the new programs I did a regular uninstall through add/remove programs and deleted the directory (if it was there – I don't remeguyer yes or no) then installed the new program.

Don't get me wrong – I like but I'm sick of the crashes. It's like the old days with IE under '98. I don't even remeguyer a crash until these new versions.

no crashes here

I haven't tried 1.5, but 1.07 has been working flawlessly for me.

Re:I have seen some bookmark menu issues with 1.5 beta 1 where I will click on a bookmark folder and it doesn't graphically show me the items but if I move my mouse down where the list SHOULD be and click it will jump me to the appropriate website.

Re:using 1.0.7. No problems

Bah, if you can't use flash, shockwave, and java, is there really a point to sticking with the browser?

Definitely. My main browsers don't have any of those plugins installed and the Internet is a much nicer place because of it.
Apparently you haven't come across a website that doesn't work without one of those plugins. There are plenty. Not to thread crap on my own thread but FF has failed on several websites I use for work.

The vast majority of flash stuff out there is complete crap. Either it's super annoying advertising (that gets blocked anyway) or someone was so duguy as to make their site in flash when it could just as easily have been done in html/javascript/css. Sites like that shouldn't be supported.

That said, I keep flash installed because there are useful applications that I come across here and there. Things like interactive maps (heathrow airport has a good one).

I have almost never seen a good application of java on a website and I don't see how a java plugin could be considered necessary. If anything it does more harm than good because of all the people who get javascript errors and then run around trying to reinstall something that has nothing to do with the problem.

Re:I love FF but 1.5 beta 1 sucked. It was slow and crapped out quite a few times. I'm on 1.07 now which is a lot better but still not an improvement on previous versions.

Re:Both 1.0.7 and 1.5 are working flawlessly for me.

I can't think of a single site that is totally unusable in Gecko and I use FF for everything at work and Galeon for everything at home.

And sure I see sites that require flash once in a while, but it's pretty rare and pretty much only flash. But that's what I have FF at home for. I just looked in my about:Plugins for FF and the only ones I have installed are Shockwave and Citrix ICA.

Re:I personally use the plugins (though I use FlashBlock) – I'm just pointing out that the problem isn't stupid developers, it's stupid Sun and Macromedia and Adobe developers.

Re:1.5 is working great for me. The only thing that bugs me about it is that sometimes Copy and Paste doesn't work right. Anyone else get this problem?

Re:I'm reading this thread while watching the game…

Thanks for the replies everyone. I did have the ad-kill or popup-kill extension and auto-copy extension applied. Also, I didn't delete my profile as guy pointed out. I'd do that and try again. I actually got used to using and prefer it over IE now. ;)

You'll have to delete the C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Application Data\Mozilla folder if you want to delete the profile.

Re:Are you using extensions? Most crashes are caused by extensions (even two extensions that work on their own could conflict causing crashes), or plugins (Sun's awful Java plugin causes a HUGE nuguyer of crashes.. flash and shockwave probably also cause some).

Re:Have you tried recreating your profile?

Re:No such problems here.

Re:Odd – I recently installed the 1.5 beta on my machine and haven't had any problems to speak of. Goofy question, but are you sure that you did clean installs? Sounds possibly like a corrupted profile. I'd recommend posting over at the MozillaZine forums (http://forums.mozillazine.org/).
