Re:I beleive mandrake uses Debian style menus.

from the command line go:

update-menus

And that should update your desktop menus. May have to log out and log back it.

That will only work if you installed a Mandrake RPM. If you installed it form source or from something else it may of ended up in /usr/local/bin or in the /opt directory

try:

locate irefox | grep bin/

if you installed it a while ago, (updatedb needs to be run to get locate to work, and that should run everynight if you leave your computer on)

or go from your root directory go:

find / 2>/dev/null | grep irefox | grep bin/

(I left the f off of firefox on purpose in case it was capitolized)

if that doesn't work then just try:

find / 2>/dev/null | grep irefox

And you will probably get more junk, but it should find it.

Re:To make a desktop icon in KDE, right-click on the desktop, pick Create New>File>Link to Application… In the dialog that comes up, name it Firefox (or whatever you like), then go to the "Application" tab and browse to where you installed Firefox (I think it just puts a Firefox folder in your home directory, and you can move it to wherever you want). There will be a "firefox" file in that folder (no extensions). Pick that and hit OK.

I did this a little while ago although I have since managed to nuke the partition it was on (:o) so I'll say what I remember. The executable stays somewhere within the directory structure that you unpacked so look for a bin folder or something of that sort. You can either run that from the commandline every time or you can make a link to it. I used the control center to place it in the start menu and then made a link on the, uhmm, what's it called in gnome? quick launch bar? Anyways, there are also icons somewhere in that package to which you can find and assign to the shortcuts using the control center as well.

Edit: oops, failed to read guy's much more authoritative post

Re:How To Install

The simplest way to install Firefox on Windows and Linux is to download the installer and double-click on it. If you prefer to download the compressed archives rather than the installer, the instructions are as follows:

Once you have downloaded the compressed (zipped) file, use Winzip or gzip to uncompress Firefox to an empty folder. Navigate to the folder you placed the files in. If you're running Windows, start the firefox.exe file (the one with the red fire icon). If you're running Linux, start the Firefox script.

Note: Do not unzip Firefox to a directory that already contains a previous version of Firefox. Either delete the existing directory, move it out of the way or create a new directory. If you install Firefox on top of an existing Firefox or Mozilla directory you will have problems.

Sounds like you just unzip it. So it should be whereever you unzipped it to (~/firefox or whatever).

Re:How did you install it?
Check your $PATH. If you installed firefox from src it probably installed itself in /usr/local/bin. If you installed an RPM or something, it's probably in /usr/bin.

Re:i tried that…this is what i get when i type that from my home directory

bash: firefox: command not found
