Flight Simulator 2004 FAQs [flight simulator 2004] [silly question]

Q: Is this good? lol dumb question I guess. I have FlightSim98, the upgrade is worth the $ $ $?

Best Answer: to speed up give more throttle
to slow down you take some throttle away
to land without crashing just ease it down, back of the throttle, let it down to just above the runway and let it settle in.

Re:….is that FSGenesis worth it?

Yes it is, it really is quite an improvement of the land in general.

Re:sorry I put the link in the wrong place in my post, I meant it just as general information for the other guy. Here's a good site to d/l planes, scenery, and all kinds of junk: AvSim (http://www.avsim.com/)

How does FS2004 work? Can you fly from state to state or something? Land at different air ports? Does anyone know of a site that explains FS series good?

It comes with a decent selection of real life airplanes and helicopters. Microsoft's site (http://www.microsoft.com/games/flightsimulator/) You can download TONS of others. Then you can fly to any airport in the world, basically the entire planet is modeled. You can make it very true to life if you want by using air traffic control, changing the weather, practicing instrument failures, etc. For $55 it really is incredible all the stuff you can do, if you're into aviation.

I don't see any planes for download at that link?

Well, so how did you guys like the 2004 screenies ? huh ??

:)

those are sweet! i haven't gotten into any addon scenery stuff, is that FSGenesis worth it?

p.s. You need to support local GA airports by taking off from Hawthorne, Santa Monica, or Torrance :)

You can fly from any airport to anywhere in the world. From Bedford, Indiana to Nepal, land at the airport, then fly to Irkutsk, down to Bejing, over to Vladivostok, down to Saigon, across to Cairo, down to Mombasa, up to London, and back to Indiana.

It downloads weather from the internet so you're actually flying through the weather as it is.

It is what the name says, flight simulation. Meaning it's as close as flying the real deal!
Wrong, that would be X-Plane.
I've been flying real airplanes for as long as I can remember. FS is pretty damn realistic.

I just bought it. What's the point of 4CDs? Just release it on DVD.

If your program requires more than 1 CD, slap it on DVD.
Offhand, considering the type of systems that can run FS2002 somewhat adequately (say a 1 GHz CPU + GF2 GTS on the low end), releasing it on CD conservatively doubles the market for this title.

Sure, new PCs that would run this game beautifully most likely have a DVD-ROM drive (even more likely a CD-RW drive), but most people don't have new PCs.

Re:check out these shots…

some 2004 shots using FSgenesismesh and maxed-out autogen (http://oldsite.simhq.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=44;t=000955)

this is what 2004 is about…"Just where do you want to go?"

Re:No purpose other than to be the best general flight sim out there. BTW it's "plane"

hehehe…

Whats the point in the series? I flew around in FS98 and 2002 at a friends house but is that all you do is fly around different plains? Does it have a purpose?

I may checkout 2004. Or is this for plain fans?

No purpose other than to be the best general flight sim out there. BTW it's "plane" ;)

It's a good training tool if you're learning to fly for real. FS2002 saved me several hundred dollars in training costs because I was able to practice all the time.

Re:Actually the not having DVD's comment makes sence, FS games have always had the option of playing on much lower machines by turning off/down options. Also DVD's are still a bit slower so those wishing not to load all of the files to disc would apprietiate that. I do think it is an option that should be availible, should even be a buck or three cheaper to buy the DVD version…

yea right, you know they would charge more. :disgust:

The majority of us don't have DVD drives?

You have a system capable of running this game and don't have a DVD drive? Most computers in the last year have shipped with them. There is no reason to buy a CD-ROM drive anymore.

I guess. I upgrade though, instead of buying.

Re:I'll stick to FS1995 (I think that's the one I have). It runs on a 286 just fine!

:P

I've been thinking about picking up FS2004, but I've managed to convince myself not to.

Re:improvement from FS2002 to FS2004 is mostly weather and air traffic control. in my view, a worth while upgrade, even from FS2002. if you are coming from FS98, it will be a world of difference…well worth it. i remember the days of FS98, and if i went straight from that to FS2004, i wouldnt believe my eyes.

Re:No comparison. Check out the screenshots on the two links above. There are article there on the improvements in dynamic weather, AI/ATC, as well as the obvious graphical enhancements. Good video card does wonders but a fast CPU >2.5 really helps things move smoothly at medium to max detail. You'll be blown away if you have the computing power to show the wonders of 2004!

If your at all into flight sims, then check out IL-2 Forgotten Battles. It is considered the "benchmark" of combat simulations (WWII) with some astounding detail. Also look for LOMAC in the following months. Absolutely astounding graphics and gameplay here as well. Simulations are coming of age as the hardware is able to do the complex operation required for something beyond a "game"…

Re:The difference is unbelievable. I started with FS98 then FS2000 then FS2002 and now FS2004. This is the best by far. FS98 is a toy in comparison.
