FreeBSD issues disk / fdisk / disk slices / HELP! [disk space issues] [freebsd machine]

Q: Aight, so, for the record, someone else set up , that f **** d me to start it up :-)

When you do this:
df-h

All the discs combined only total to about 15GB.

Yet when you this: do
fdisk / dev/ad0

It reports the disk as 76,000 MB (80 GB HDD)
How can I find out where the missing 65gb, and how do I use?

Also on that note, is there anyway to resize partitions in FreeBSD without losing any data on that partition . probably a longshot, this is a .

Thanks in advance! Keith

Best Answer: Is it really a message from OSX, not some popup from some joker on the internet ?
Some ideas to try :
empty the trash
stop all running programs
log out
restart
delete podcasts, movies, music, pictures you do not need anymore
empty the Safari cache

You da man… :-)

No, the people that setup sites like marc and google are the men. I'm just a person that knows how and where to search and likes to help people learn to figure it out on their own just a little bit better. :P

Thanks, I actually did look at the FreeBSD docs, but I couldn't find anything… but I'm probably just not searching with the correct keywords :-)

I went into one of the OpenBSD lists and searched for "resize." I only checked there because I knew it had been answered on misc@OpenBSD plenty of times. You might enjoy the FreeBSD lists a bit more than I though. ;)

Re:growfs might be in the FreeBSD tree or in ports. Check it out.

Try disklabel to see if it can find the extra space. :)

Re:If they aren't in use, you should be able to use the free space just like you normally would. It might involve fdisk and possibly disklabel.

I think there are some resizing utilities, but I'm not positive. Since you already googled and looked at the extensive FreeBSD documentation, I'm not sure I'll be able to find anything. But I'll try anyhow. :)
