Q: My bro and I grabbed a couple of these BadBoys (http://www.plantronics.com/canada/en_US/catalog/display_product_detail.jhtml?rootId=cat1200110u0026prodId=prod440020u0026productTypeId=cat1200105) half and we got very mad to do in Battlefield 1942 with Roger Wilco. Its pretty damn cool, but Im curious about what proggy is the most accepted and / or contemplated best.
Also, using a stereo headset, like ours, a channel playing through your speakers or headphones? What is the de facto hardcore method?
Re:Roger Wilco has become rediculously buggy since GameSpy took it over.
The BAse Staion just hasn't worked properly since they started tinkering with it.
Re:Sorry to resurrect old topics, but I can't figure out which I should choose…
I want to talk with my roomate through the network only. We don't plan on having anyone else in the voice chat channel. We want to be able to press a button while in game to activate chat rather than having it on 24/7. We'll be using it as an intercom (upstairs to downstairs.)
Which has the absolute best voice quality with the least cpu usage? Bandwidth is not a concern since we have 100Mbit/s network.
Thanks
Re:If you are only doing one on one conversations. Skype has the best sounding voice and communication. As far as teamspeak goes its adequate as long as you set it up correctly.
Re:TeamSpeak is what the people at my previous LAN group liked. I only used it once, and it seemed good enough.
Tried Roger Wilco early on when I was looking for such a program, and didn't like it. Tried it again later on, and still didn't like it.
The program I finally settled on for my personal LAN is Battlecom. Unfortunately, they were bought out by Microsoft and discontinued. I still have their last versions of the client and server (client can be used in peer-to-peer mode and not need the server at all). It's still pretty easy to use, very functional, and looks nice.
Re:Just a follow up… Ventrilo is much improved since 2.x and now does have user selectable codecs. EZ to recommend. Although neither it nor TeamSpeak have the simple integrated GUI server of TeamSound that proggy is looking dated and less robust.

Ok, my question here then would be, is there any way to have the sound of his voice come through my headset, yet the game sound come through the speakers? That would be ideal, but i don't think it works. Anyone?
You can use your on-board sound for the mic/headset and your sound card for the game sound.
Re:Teamspeak (http://www.teamspeak.org).
Re:Teamspeak.
Ventrillo is good as well, but teamspeak is more standard with people now.
Re:I've read that Game Voice uses Messenger – so what's the advantage to using GV over MSN Messenger's default audio conversation? My bro and I were using that and the vox quality is top-notch. I didn't notice any lagging while in-game and with the conversation minimized it uses less resources then Roger Wilco.
Re:TeamSpeak is popular but not really great. TeamSound is very good but since it relies on OS codecs and MS decided not to include the good L&H ones with XP, requires user knowledge to install. Ventrilo is said to be better than TeamSpeak and it is very simple to set up but it lacks user selectable codecs.
Re:Roger Wilco I think has spyware/adware stuff in it. That's why I don't use it.
I like MS Game Voice Share, which is the free version of Game Voice.
Re:Teamspeak is the best i believe, but it can be a pain in the ass to set up IIRC. I used MS Game Voice of the longest time. Excellent quality, and VERY easy to set up.
I haven't used Roger Wilco in a long time. I used it like 4 years ago, then moved onto Game Voice. Haven't used it since.

Re:I use Teamspeak when I game with my bro. I really can't compare it with the other programs cause I never tried anything else but I must say teamspeak works pretty well.
I have one of those desktop microphones and a 4.1 speaker set up on my end cause I just prefer to hear the sounds from my speakers. I just keep the volume a little lower than normal so it doesn't cause any issues on his end when he's speaking to me or if this action gets real loud. He uses headphones and that works out well for him cause he lives in an apartment and whenever we get a chance to game,it's usually late.
