Gateway Power . I can just replace? [surprise surprise] [micro atx]

Q: My old 233MHz PII Gateway needs a new food, all I know is that the old one was 200W and ATX. Anyone know where I can one or a replacement, that is, get a 145 PSU will do the trick? BTW, Im trying to Gateway technical support, they did not (surprise, surprise .). I have a feeling that I need a micro-ATX u0026quot; u0026quot, but Im not sure . Thanks for any info.

Re:i want to upgrade to a 300W PSU for my gateway case!

Re:Most cases still use ATX power supplies. Micro-ATX PSUs have a fan on the inside positioned over the processor (PSU is sideways) but I have seen many cheap generic cases blanketing the CPUs with regular PSUs (Looks like they need the Enermax dual-fan kind). Micro-ATX PSUs are VERY distinguishable! The are much smaller, full of vent holes in the rear (Because the fan over the processor is usually the only fan), & have a fan mounted on the inside of the case over the proc. 200w ones are rare, but I saw one that said it was a generic eMachines replacement (Is eMachines proprietary in any way?).

Re:Offten it is the fan that failed, therefor test the PS to see if it is still good then replace the fan if it is aplicable.

Re:Yeah, that's why I get the feeling that I'll need a micro-ATX, although I may have to drill a hole or two in order to screw it in place. You would think that a company like Gateway would at the very least tell you where to get a replacement if they don't have it……..live and learn. Thanks for the responses everyone, you guys are the BEST!!

Re:a normal standard ATX PSU won't fit in, trust me i've broke my PSU before and had my spare normal ATX one hanging outside the case…while the replacement comes

Re:You shouldn't need anything special unless of course it is a mini ATX. But a PS with 200W should do the trick. And GW always trys to get you to buy a new machine. So don't believe them if they say you can't get one. They are everywhere. Good luck….

Re:As far as i know GW is not out of those Power Supplies as I get them in all the time for customer units. PM me with your Serial # and i will look up your system and see what you need.
