Q: I have a Geforce 256 on my AT mobo w / BX chipset. The monitor is black (off) and comes back at random, sometimes stays off. Does anyone know of any problems? Power is 230W, AT board.
Is my PS too low?
Is my mobo is not strong enough?
Any ideas?

Re:Thank you I'll try it
Re:The driver in the package that matters is the one for motherboard chipset AGP controller. It can make a world of difference in video card stability and performance.
Re:I'm confused. Are you saying the ALI drivers are for my mobo or the vid card? I'd hate to make things worse.
thank you
Re:Unfortunately the chipset on that motherboard is not Intel 440BX, it's ALI Aladdin Pro II. Older ALI chipsets have historically been very hard to get working properly with nVidia TNT or GeForce series AGP video cards. It has to do with either chipset's poor AGP controller or motherboard's inability to deliver enough current to the video adapter.
I had this very same motherboard for a very short while. I got my TNT card (Asus V3400) working by installing latest ALI chipset drivers. It ran fairly stable, but compared to i440BX, performance was horrific. Get the latest chipset drivers from ALI's site, here (http://www.ali.com.tw/eng/support/drivers/aladdin-pro_2_driver.htm).
If you don't get the motherboard + Geforce working, I recommend you find yourself Asus P2B-B i440BX motherboard. It's the only good AT form factor Slot 1 motherboard am aware of.

AT mobo w/230 ps (mobo info below if I did the link correctly)
http://www.pcchips.com.tw/M726MRT.html
256 pc133
8.4 gig HD
12x cdr
40x cd rom
ethernet card/cable modem
USB ports for camera
Printer port/scanner
What about the monitor refresh rate. (since I first posted)It seems to stablize when I lower it to 72Hz. Why is that? I also may unplug the cd rom and see the effect of that. I'm in between systems with this old board. I'm rebuilding soon. New 7200 HD with this vid card, 300 watt atx case, you know what I mean. I was hoping to stabilize this card in the meantime. You suggestions are very welcome.

Re:You have an AGP 2X capable slot don't you? Anyway, my guess is that your PS isn't good enough. GeForce 256's draw a lot of power, more than most newer cards. What else do you have in the system?
