Crimson Editor (http://www.crimsoneditor.com/)

I love it. And it's free!!

Yeah I use Crimson in work and its pretty good though not really the most stable application around.

You could always download Netbeans from Sun which is a free IDE for Java.

Re:Text Editor: UltraEdit (http://www.ultraedit.com/)
IDE: JCreator (http://www.jcreator.com/)
Eclipse was quite good also.

Re:If you are using this for java editing why dont you get an IDE like http://www.eclipse.org. Eclipse is an excellent Java IDE written mostly by IBM and also they is a really good C++ plug in for it

Re:Emacs is the ultimate text editor, but almost everything is done with key combos and the manual has something like 1.5MB.
If you don't want to spend the time it takes to learn Emacs, then I would suggest Crimson Editor.

Re:I am really liking jEdit. Using it in FreeBSD and writing an openGL application that's over 2500 lines of code
so far. Seems to handle the job quite well.

Re:Ones I've tried and liked:
BBedit
Multi-edit
Emacs

Emacs was my favorite, but I wouldn't trust my tastes if I were you. ;)

Re:try vim. there is a learning curve so you gotta be patient. but you will not go back.
