Got a 7800GT. What should I upgrade? [epox ep] [copper heat]

Q: Hi. I am looking for my video card upgrade. My bro needs a new card for his rig and want mine. What do you think I should upgrade? Im looking for the best performance for the dollar, but I want a good boost in performace to see about my 7800gt.

Here rig.

CPU my AMD Athlon 64 3700 + San Diego 1MB L2 Cache 2200MHz
Mobo: -9NPA + Ultra, nForce4 Ultra (Socket 939)
Memory: 2GB OCZ PC3200 @ 2-3-2-5 1T
Video of Card: eVGA 7800GT 256MB w / copper heatsink (# N516) OCed @ 470MHz/1100MHz Nvidia GeForce
Hard Disk: 160.0 GB Seagate @ 7200 RPMS (IDE)
Monitor: 22-inch widescreen LCD Westinghouse 1680×1050

Any suggestions? I was thinking about this: 977 503 eVGA 512-P2-N637-AR GeForce 7950GT 512MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express x16 KO Superclocked Video Card
http: / / www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814130066

Is this my best bet? I cannot spend more than $ 300

How performace much benefit can I get?

Best Answer: Boy, that's faster and more ram than the PC I bought 2 months ago.

Generally, it is not economical to keep upgrading PCs, they only last 3-4 years anyway before they fail (usually the hard drive, power supply or CPU fan).

Due to the age of your unit, I would suggest simply replacing the computer is a better option.

With a new CPU, you may need to replace the motherboard and hence the ram, the new motherboard may not support your hard drive and may need a new power supply.

Re:No , if you have a 7800GT then don't upgrade… unless you want to pay $450 for 8800GTS. ATI and Nvidia are getting ready to release new cards in mid jan. 7800GT to 7950GT is stupid move. Either get 8800GTS + or wait.

Re:Im will be sticking to my pc'ed 7800gt for a while, at least till the r600 comes out, it runs all the games I play perfectly. But if you reeeaalllyy need to upgrade, and want a massive performance boost at the same time, get one of the 8800 cards. If you cant spend more than 300 (just saw that), Get the x1950xt 256mb. But I wouldnt spend money on dx9 cards when dx10 cards are already appearing, and a lot of them are right around the corner (q1&2 of 07)

Re:I agree. But even if i can get $200 for this card?

Wait till summer.Honestly your card can handle the newest games still.Even on high.

Yep! Still has some life in it!

Re:Honestly, I'd wait.

Re:But doesnt the 7950GT preform even better compared to a 7900gt?

Re:i while back i went from a 7800gt to a 7900gt co sc from evga…i noticed a boost but it wasnt that much. I would say wait a bit, or else a real performance boost would be from a GTX or greater.
