Q: anyone know whats up with a number of companies 9600pros with 400MHz memory?
I got a GeCube and I just assumed when I ordered, it was 400/600 for a 9600pro. and it was 400/200. I read some reviews of the same card and others on newegg and GeCube and sapphires are both persons reporting 400MHz memory. The card performs ok, I think. with a Sempron 3100 + and 512MB is put down 33fps in Doom3 timedemo @ 8×6 med quality. i still dont feel I got what I thought was getting . I have ordered a different brand, if I knew better. Fortunately, only a build im doing for someone: P

Re:I bought that same card from Newegg back in november……. and when I bought it the Newegg ad listed it as 600 Mhz memory although it came with a dang slow 400 Mhz ddr memory (Hynix 5ns chips).

BTW…. I got exactly the same overclock that rogue mentioned: 440/235……anything higher gives artifacts.
I must say the card has very poor performance, with the rig on my sig I got 2800 points on 3DMark2003 without overclocking, and 3300 with 440/235 overclock.
Halflife 2 ran "decent" at 1024×7 with medium settings, Need for Speed Underground 2 showed control lag at 1024×7 with medium settings, so I had to step back to 800×6 with high settings (but no AA).
It's a good thing that in my country video cards are very expensive, I put it up for auction and managed to get $180 for it. With that I got an ATI 9800 PRO off eBay and it will be arriving next friday. 
My advice to Epileptic: Don't settle with that POS, try to rma it. Although I believe it won't be easy since the komusa ad indeed mentioned it has 400 mhz memory.

I agree. If they want to run the core at the full 400MHz and use low speed memory, they need to name it a 9600Pro EZ or something to keep people from being confused.
I have the same card in my daughters machine, it manages a measly 440/235 overclock. With that said it still performs decently, though well behind my ATI XT variant that hits 591/348.

Re:I had the same thing happen to me a few months ago. Ordered a Saphire 9600pro alantis and got the advantage edition instead with much slower ram. So i sent it back, ended up getting a 9600xt with hl2 for cheap so all ended well.

Does your 9600pro have 128 or 256 MB of memory? And, can you provide us with the very link you used to buy this card if possible?

yeah this would help, i believe the 256mb cards did only come with 400mhz memory

It is a bit lame that some companies sell a "9600Pro" with only 200/400Mhz memory. It's less lame, than, say, the 128-bit "9800Pro" that Sapphire had for a while, or the ASUS "6800GT" with DDR instead of GDDR3.
That said, you need to know what you're buying. Caveat emptor and all that.
Re:The RAM speeds are a little low but there are certainly some cards that use quite low RAM speeds, the 9600pro seems to vary between 200 and 300Mhz.
Unfortunately it really pays to do plenty of research before placing the order. On the plus side it is still within specification so the receiving party can't really complain.
