Hard Drive Recognition and Win2k . This is weird [software issue] [boot device]

Q: – Edit –
I successfully installed Win98 and recognize 32 gigs, as I wanted until 2000. I tried to upgrade to 2000, say the blue screened inaccessible . Ive tried a fresh install of 2k, it does not recognize the 32 performances. This is very strange for me . I want my 2000 back: (977 503 – End of Edit –

Mods, I do not know where I should post this, and I hope for a relatively rapid response, both a hardware and software problem . You may think you belong when it should not be there .

PC: K6-2 450Mhz, an older version of the Award BIOS (when was the current 450Mhz was top of the line for a CPU), had a 15 Gig HD with W2K, that there had no problems until he died .

I bought a 40 Gig 15 Gig Western Digital to be replaced and the BIOS recognized 32 Gigs . I was ok with that, but when I install W2K, only 8 performances are recognized . I tried everything I could think of to get to the rest of the HD (to recognize Im not worried about anything over 32 gigs), but in vain. I ran an fdisk that came with the Win98 CD, it recognizes 32 performances , and I even formatted it but when I go back to InstallShield 2000, try formatting the disk without success. I went so far to an Ultra ATA card, then my BIOS recognize 38 gigs to buy but could Win2k t find the hard disk, and there was no driver disk with the card, but a CD, but win2k wont allow that.

Any possible solutions?
Any help would be greatly appreciated, and thanks in advance!

That's kind of opposite to what a friend of mine had happen. The bios of his motherboard had a hard drive size limitation. He installed win2k ok. When he went into the win2k disk management later, he was able to see the rest of the drive, that the bios couldn't, and he set it up as another partition.

When you installed win2k, did you boot from the cd to install? I've seen troublesome systems, that the only way they could be installed on, was by booting from the cdrom, and installing to a non-partitioned hard drive, and then letting win2k do the partitioning during the install process.

I tried several times booting from the cd, and once with the boot disks.
I know the motherboard doesnt accept anything over 32MB, I know for a fact it does accept over 8, because I had a 15 in it before which worked fine. As far as the partitioning, I've let w2k do it, I've partitioned/formatted with win98 (win98 – I had no problems fdisking or formatting), I tried different jumper settings, and I've tried an Ultra ATA card. I can install w2k where it will show up as a 8 gig partition, but it wont recognize the other space.
This really has me stumped, because if the bios picks it up as 32 gigs, then I wouldn't see why w2k doesn't, unless I'm just missing something here. I'll try the WD Software again to test it for errors, hopefully I can come up with something..

Re:WD Website (http://support.wdc.com/techinfo/general/jumpers.asp)

Have read the small print on this page concerning the 32MB limit? You may need to jumper your drive differently or use the EZ-Install tool.

Re:I believe I am having a similar problem. I'm gonna subscribe to this thread. Here is a link to the one I made:

Is there a BIOS update for that particular MB? That might do the trick.

I know there are some software updates for the CMOS, I'm not sure about a chip.. CMOS shows it up as 32 gigs, but Win2k shows 8.. Win98 fdisk shows it up also.. I would think that if the 15 gig worked fine and showed all 15 gigs in W2k that it would at least show that up in W2k.. Its been forever since I've really messed with much hardware stuff so I can't say for sure.. Maybe I'm missing something here? Is it normal for it to show up in cmos and not in w2k if its a bios prob? Not trying to discredit you, I'm just making sure.

Thanks
