Have computer with wireless network everytime to configure startup [wireless pci adapter] [2wire modem]

Q: I am working on setting up a wireless network for my friend. He has SBC DSL with their new router with built wireless/4-port. Are computers with this Gigabyte (https: / / http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16839121008). Everytime we start the computer to connect to the gateway we need to “zero config utility by right clicking on the adapter icon in the icon to try and select enable” is zero config utility “. Without doing so, the computer can not connect to the gateway, it can physically see it but it will not connect to it. Is there a way to keep the zero configuration utility as the default, so when the computer starts up to automatically connect to the network without us manually set?

Best Answer: Sounds like you may have a 3rd party app trying to run your wireless.

Right Click on my computer – go to manage.

Go to services – find the Wireless Zero Configuration Service.

Be sure this is set to Start Automatically – and that it is started.

I would hunt through that list and see if there are any other wireless services (Dell Wireless, D-Link Wireless, Linksys Wireless, etc.) – set them to manual start mode and stop the services.

Start – Run – MSConfig

Go to the startup tab and see if any 3rd party wireless programs are starting up automatically. Uncheck them and reboot.

After making these changes – your WZC should be enabled all the time.

Best of luck.

Re:I disabled the gigabyte utility and ran it through windows and everything is working fine now. Once again the members of Anandtech come through hehe. Thanks guys.

Re:I recently bought a Netgear wireless kit and I don't use the Netgear utility either.

Using the windows wireless configuration works great for me!

I had a problem like this with a Linksys wireless card.
Disable the gigabyte software from the startup list and make sure it dosn't run at any time.
Configure the windows utility to take care of your internet connection.
Listen to this man. MSconfig is your friend.
Should I do the same with my Netgear Wireless Assistant?
I keep getting issues with my wireless computer dropping off the network. But my wired computer is always fine, so I suspect the router is doing its job.

Re:Ok Ill try that orion, thanks. i probably wont be able to get back to my friends place until tomorrow, but once I do, Ill post back with the results, thanks.

Re:It was already set to auto and its still not working. Are there other settings I need to change?

Re:Go to Control Panel / Administrative Tools Double click on services scroll down to the end and set WZC to Auto.
