Have you had trouble with Linksys or D-Link routers? [linksys router] [cod2]

Q: My is just a bitch. I consider myself tech support call when connection problem. I hate calling. Outsourcing.

This freakin sucks, Ive been in technical support for the half hour, Ive installed and configured two games, and fear, in the meantime and now I am on hold. Crappy quality music playing with stuttering and static subjects.

Best Answer: Your MTU might be too high.

Log into your router and on the first page, you will see something called the MTU. Click on "Manual" to set it manually. Set it at about 1300.

The other possibility is if you all are using wireless, you may need to UNsecure your wireless access. It never worked on mine, it always screws up. Try those things and see if they work, if all else fails, there is a Linksys LiveSupport chat that operates all day anytime at http://linksys.com . PUt in your product model and you will be chatting with a professional in no time!

Re:How does a router effect music quality? Surely the games don't stream the soundtrack over the net, and even if they did, the router wouldn't introduce distortion or 'static'… It might drop packets which could cause slow playback or stuttering but not distortion. Why do you think it's the router? Sounds like an issue with sound hardware, I had problems with the onboard sound on my NF7-S which was helped by actively cooling the southbridge.

And BTW, never call tech support for anything unless it's a problem on their end. They are even dumber than you think.

Re:I used to hate Netgear, but after taking over 2 WRT54G's from my friend they're a huge pain in the butt to config. But at least they're fully featured and WPA works on them!

Netgear's WGR614 WPA would never work… or maybe I realized that 802.11b can't take WPA.

Re:I've had nothing but trouble lately with linksys. When we got cable, our cable modem and router worked flawless for a year, then it started crapping out. Got a new router, and now I can hold a connection no longer than 11hours or so without it resetting itself or whatever. And on occasion(once a week i've noticed so far) the internet connection will just die for like 20 minutes. Tried unplugging, resetting, and nothing works. Maybe my modem is just old and isn't working right with the router? I dunno.

I've only used a couple of d-link products but they are all working fine.

Re:I have the DWL-2100AP (wireless access point) and it's working great, no problems whatsoever. I have no experience with Linksys though…

Re:My Dlink is going in the garbage….I hate it that much…..

Re:Every single linksys I have put in has worked perfectly, actually I may have one thats failing, not sure yet, customer is complaining that it is freezing. Anyway, say 1 out of 40, not bad, on the other hand out of 4 D-link routers I have had 2 fail on me, thats when I went back to Linksys:D

WTT

Re:My Linksys has been rock solid since I bought it. I've had it for about 5 months now.
