HD LED keeps flashing even when PC is idle. [even loads] [cpu load]

Q: Im sitting here looking at my HD LED on my case and she refuses to stop blinking even when I sit here doing nothing at 0% . What the heck is my HD doing? I do not have hibernation enabled. It does this even when I log-in screen for WinXP . The light blinks about every second or so constantly and will not stop. What is causing this?

Re:Yeah this just happened recently. I can't pin point it exactly but I'm sure it must've been after I installed something. I will take your advice and run a full virus scan. I know normally the HD LED will blink from time to time even when I'm idle, but this is something different. It blinks about every half second from the moment I'm in Windows and will not stop, ever, no matter how long I've been idle or if I shut down all my programs.

Re:Did this just recently start?

Run a full virus scan after an update to make sure its not a virus.

But it could easily be any of the startups or services.

Re:Something acessing the Hard disk causes the light to blink, it could be any number of programs but the most common to cause something like this is some type of anti virus software, this is most likely just normal HDD acess. Hope this helps…. :)
