Q: ok, I just ubilt my computer and I have Soundblaster Live 5.1 installed in the computer (1.1GHz AMD w / abit KT7-RAID). Windows says it is detecting the sound card in Device Manager. I can not seem to get any sound from it. Ive checked the deivce manager and tried testing it. In the control panal multimedia / sound will not let me change something all the stuff u0026quot; u0026quot; mind quite blurred text and I can not configure anything. So my computer right now has no volume icon, so I can not even change either. I have the latest drivers and crap and nothing Ems to even work. any help would be really appreciated. thanks

click the second tab over, i believe. you will see a button in the middle of the window that says 'device manager'

Re:yea, i have all the right drivers installed, but i think im going to check the IRQ#'s though, when i boot up it shows that the serial bus controller and multimedia contorller are both IRQ #5. is that right. well i tried starting fresh and stuff but i can't get sound still.

Re:IF you don't have the speaker icon next down in the task bar then somethings not setup correctly. I would delete everything to do with the sound card from the device manager and start fresh. Also make sure the drivers your using is for that sound card. Like you have Win98 and the drivers or for win2k, or vice versa. Just a thought.
Also in device manager (win98) highlight 'computer' and click properties. IF the sound card is sharing an irq with another device you might want to change that. Make the sound card be on it's own irq. I know that pci devices are suppose to be able to share irq's but some hardware is self centered and doesn't like to share.
