Q: Ive never had problems with my comp, until I upgrade to the HSF and installed a RAID card. Then my problems began. My system is stable at a slower MHz, but as stock speeds, chashes. My system will shut off and then restart, shutdown, reboot . You get the idea, when set at stock speeds.
Usually crashes at the login screen, but not always, sometimes after logging. I can not bluescree of death or something, if someone is unplug the computer. I would have a power problem, bad memory, whats next.
Epox 8rda + with a 2200xp and Kingston HyperX PC3000 512 MB, 400 W. Allied power. Aero 7 cooler stock 977 503 13.5 and 13.5 and 133mhz
Stable 125mhz.
I had the board since February and have it overclocked to 13.5 and 155mhz.
I removed from the RAID card, not working Properly.
I flashed the CMOs, the updated BIOS, reinstall the drivers.
Fresh Windows.
Moved memory DIMM to another spot.
I do not know what to do. Are there any benchmarks I can do the memory test. I have a soft sandra, she has not seen abnomalies. Please, help Nate
Best Answer: At this point, I would perform a repair install of Widows.
This can be done using your Windows CD.

Re:it probably solidified because the hsf wasnt properly installed (probably a big gap between the hsf and the cpu core) and the thermal compound got baked by the overheating cpu
Re:I would like to first thank everyone who offered input. I got my system to run stock flawlessly for the last 30 minutes at 37 degrees. I've never gotten it below 40 before.
I followed the leads everyone offered. I myself thought it was the ram, but I was wrong. I ran the my HyperX with Mem86 and changed slots. I then tooled my the Bios and changed various combinations of mutiplyiers and Memory speeds. I noticed that when my cpu ran at 10x 164 it was 6 degrees cooler then 10.5x 164. So I removed the HSF and cleaned the processor off and put it back on. Runs great. I would have done that first, but the clip to put th HSF on is a pain in the @ss.
Has anyone ever heard of maybe silver compound solidifying on the cpu. I wonder if this could of been the problem. I spent a good 3 minutes wiping the cpu down.

Re:When their is a major problem I allways suspect RAM first and it nearly allways is the culprit.If you are running in dual mode then take one stick out and try in single mode and check each stick individually.
Re:I got to leave for a Halloween party, but I can't get the raid card to boot up I got it to boot up fine like normal 5 or 6 times, then nothing. I think it might be a bad card, but I don't know. Windows recognizes the card by my bios doesn't. I cleared the cmos, nothin, flash the lastest bios, nothin , I changed Irq, pci slots nothin works. I gave up on the card. It is sitting on my desk at the moment.

Re:I just had this happen to me. I thought it was a virus but after a big reformat and fresh installation it shows the problem to be the rams. At stock speed of 133 FSB the system just reboots by itself and becoming more frequent as you go along. Until finally the system cannot boot anymore due to corrupted files caused by instant reboots.
Since I do not have better rams in place I have to settle down to 131/33 FSB and just increased the multiplier. Now it's stable but at a lesser FSB.
You might want to test the system again by loading the default bios config. If the system is stable then check what FSB is loaded. If it's less than 133 then start raising the FSB slowly until you get it to stock speed. If it does not stabilized at stock speed see if you can try other rams. Re:Thanks, I give the HSF a shot in the morning. This is my third HSF on this processor and I can't seem to get below 40. Ussually around 45-50 depending on the load. I got 6 case fans.

Epox really dropped the ball on the lack of Hardware monitor on this peticullar board.

If you can't run at stock speeds, then the only logical explanation is that you incorrectly or poorly mounted the HSF. Don't sweat it…you can do it a hundred times and still put one on and have it kick and shout. Pull it off, clean up the goop, and try again.

Re:did you double check that the new hsf was making good contact with the cpu? if not the cpu could overheat and totally lose stability
