Q: It starts become an annoyance. There is a stop that was happening on my computer, and it is very noticeable when playing videos from YouTube, but it happens to do other things such as typing just done now.
It seems about every 5 minutes or so strange (I havent actually timed) my computer would slow down and even things would break about 1 to 2 seconds before resuming the activity. For example, when a video from YouTube, in the middle of a video, the video to freeze for a second or two before resuming play. The sound is still play.
This not happen when I go to the normal videos stored on my computer to play. In case you think it might be a browser problem, Im using Opera 9.21.
This “break every 4-5ish minutes or so” does not happen when I play a game for example.
I think that maybe my hard drive fault or a cache setting not set right, but I cannot pin point where it is. But now, I am now tired of this delay will break my system me.
My system:
C2D E6600
P5B Deluxe
2GB Corsair XMS2 150GB Raptor 256MB
WD C6400C4
ATi X1950Pro (such as the hard disk OS) 9,775,032 X WD5000AAKS hard drives storage
The raptor does seem continuous activity, but it makes a bit by the LAG happens.
Edit, gave a more precise time when it gives the break.
Re:Opera 9.20 on my old computer and there is no stop lag.
Opera 9.21 on my new computer and there is a stop lag. Like I have said before, even when I am typing and no streaming content is played, I would keep typing but the output will not show up on the screen til about 1 or 2 seconds later and the stuff I have been typing and that didn't show at the same time all appears at once on the browser text box and I continue to type on my merry way. Edit: i have reinstalled Opera on my new computer with the same result.
There is alot of disk activity when the lag happens.
And when I move my mouse with the Opera window active, if I am say over a link with the hand icon and the lag happens, the cursor will stay as the hand for 1 or 2 seconds to which I can't do anything until the lag goes away.
Could it be fixed if I am able to defragment some system files that I can't defrag on my OS drive?
Re:Are you using the same version of Opera on both computers? Have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling the browser?
Re:This problem does not happen with my other computer I am using. Got the latest from Adobe and the problem still persists on my new computer. However, none of this happens with my old computer. I am very confused. I do think the difference lies with the Raptor…
Re:I think that Opera may have memory leaks if your disk activity increases when using it. Check to see if there is a new version of flash player. It might work better with Opera now. The new version of Firefox opens link as tabs instead of window.
Re:It may just be Opera and this computer. This problem does not occur with an older machine I have running the same browser (Athlon XP, 768MB memory, a WD 30GB ATA100 drive as the OS). Internet Explorer 7 does not seem to show this problem as well.
There is also an incident where the full screen mode of Youtube f**ks with Opera and locks the entire browser up. Not an issue with IE obviously. No way I am going back to Firefox. I am way use to the better interface with Opera. Not to mention, last I used Firefox, each link opens in a new window and not a new tab unless I hit a combination of some buttons (and no setting as I found to change it either).
And it seems like with Opera running, my disk activity increases, even on idle activity from my end.
Re:I think it's the browser or Internet problem. Have you tried a different browser like Firefox? You have a very fast system. When the computer "delayed" itself, were all programs affected or just Opera? Playing a game is much more demanding than playing video from youtube. If the problem is system-wide, then the game should have been affected too, not just when playing video from youtube.
