Q: They are coming Thursday to do everything I need to install and installed the Ethernet card to get. It tells me something plug into the “WOOL” on my motherboard I do not see it on my mb manual. I have a A7N8X-X motherboard if you know where I was helping out. It is not the thing as a “modem” is it? Another thing my floppy died a while ago do you think they need to get my satellite internet or just CD-ROM to install?

Ok, under System/hardware/device manager it says the 'realtek family pci fast ethernet nic' is working properly but it won't let me update it with the files you told me to download for it. Says files can't be found win I select winxp folder. So everything should be good to go for tomorrow?Ok. Thta is good.
Relax and wait for the rest of the Hardware.

Re:This is quite funny I never encountered the Floppy story.
I don?t like to execute drivers? files since they might spread files all over with their choice of directories, so I always use Winrar and take out what I need.
As they say ?Never too old to learn?.

Re:They need a floppy for drivers? Never heard of that before…
Some manfacturers ship drivers in executables that when run will only put the files on a floppy, I have no idea why they don't give you the option to just extract them but they don't. Sometimes this can be worked around by just extracting the files by hand, normally they're just a self-extracting LHA, ZIP, etc archive.
Re:NIC is the Network card.
Unzip the drivers to a directory of your choice, switch On the LAN in your Mobo BIOS (It might be referred to as LAN On, or similar expression). Reboot and if windows asks for drivers point to the directory with the Drivers.

Re:They need a floppy for drivers? Never heard of that before…
Re:Thanks, my floppy broke a while ago so I went and downloaded the drivers for my card and they said I needed a floppy to finish installing, a lot of good that did. So i'm going to have newegg next day me a floppy so I can get this installed.
Re:You will never need/use WOL, don't worry about that part.
Re:Wake On LAN is not necessary, unless you plan on using it. I never plug the thing in though.
I think I have the same motherboard. The onboard LAN should be enabled already. Go into your hardware manager and look for it there. ![]()
Re:What is the built in lan on my MB? I can't find what i'm supose to enable in the bios to make this work. Anyone know?
