, HELP! PSU unit died and it took my mobo. advice on the new PSU [400w psu] [nice game]

Q: This morning I was playing a of 1942, when my system suddenly went down. Tornado fans my RPMs went way out of control and I lost all photos. After intensive testing of the components i conculded my generic is putting out too much juice is supposed to fry the mobo in the process (mobo does not beep and only a green light comes on). CDrom and fans seem to work fine. My Asus is still under warranty and I will RMA.

1. Do you think my Raptor bit the dust?
2. How is Newegg RMA?
3. Send me a PSU that wont do this to me again. (Please do not recommend, because of noise, im sure I wont be able to tell my Différance two tornado fans, one need a good cooling too.)
4. my theory is grounds?

system specs
Asus A7N8X Corsair XMS deluxe
Athlon XP 2500
1gb of pc3200
G4 TI4200 8x
WD Raptor

any input is greatly appreciated

Re:NEW EGG RULES, i sent them just the mobo and they sent me a brand new rev2 in the reatail box with everything!@!!!!!!

Re:thnx guy, i bought the one you linked. it had perfect reviews and it fit my needs exactly, but more importantly, it was the correct price.

Re:I have been very happy so far with a pair of Enlight 420W units. $55 shipped from newegg. Made by HiPower, identical to the Thermaltake PSU's. Seem very heavy duty, lots of connectors, long connectors if you have a larger case, very stable readings on the various rails. Like them better than my Sparkle 350W unit. Just in case you want to consider an alternative to Antec. I could have got the Antec instead, but I am cheap and always try to get the best for the least amount of money. The PNY PC-2700 ram with spektek chips may have been a mistake, but the Enlight 420W power supplies so far have been gold. Good luck.

A pretty nice power supply for the money. (Note the factory is asking $129 retail for the same unit)

Re:{$MySite} tomshardware.com both have reviews of psu's. and comparisons between a bunch.

but yes, you can't go wrong with antecs. there are cheaper ones that are quite good, butyou'l have to look at the reviews to find out. that or go to a store and buy by weight :) heavy = good. but thats no awy to determine noise.

Re:Get an Antec Truepower. I had a 430W from Amazon. Now yes, it did die on me, don't know why exactly. However, I was able to send it back for a replacement under warranty – the new one seems to be working just fine. They do take their time though getting a new one to you…but still, their Truepower line is usually recommended around here. Either that, or go for the top quality, top dollar PC Power&Cooling ones. So I hear anyway – they're supposed to be the best of the best.

Oh yeah, more info on the death of the Antec PSU I had – something inside it popped, but the PC kept running. It seemed that only the fans inside the power supply were affected; they didn't seem to be getting power. I couldn't open it up to have a look, because there's one of those "Void your warranty" stickers on the PSU. But the thing still was able to power up the PC, which was completely undamaged by the PSU's injury.

Re:newegg is very good at RMAs
get an antec truepower and never worry about the PSU again

Re:Antec, enermax, or sparkle.

Re:so, antec PSU? any more recommendations

Re:i'm running somewhat similar system with 1gb of 2100 ram but with cpu at a much higher clock on 350watts antec. 5 case fans. i dont have a raptor, but i have two hds:P

Re:1)You'll have to test it but either way it's warranted
2) They are Superb @ RMAing
3)Antec, Enermax, Sparkle, Foltron,Thermaltake
4)Yes esp if the PSU was a cheap generic one

Re:get a fortron 350w.. newegg has them for cheap
