Help to find SCSI RAID Adapter [raid 0 1] [st118202lc]

Q: Well, Im giving a shot back SCSI . I bought a piece of 10s Seagate. They have their two Ultra Wide SCA 10k drives with 80 pin connectors. Im looking for a RAID 0 +1 setup type. Which card should I looking for? I would not rather buy adapters 10, as that would get too expensive, (I have the discs for $ 160) and I found most of the adapters are about $ 15 (including VAT and postage ). I would almost as much spending on the adapters when I drive. Anyway, I am hoping there is a RAID card that is 200-ish series that is internally a 80-card that would accommodate this.

Edit: OK, I did some searching and maybe I am not familiar with this 80 pin, but I can not seem to find any ribbons at all, let alone the cards . So I just stuck adapters to buy these stations? and where can I find a tape with more than 7 connections? Or is that a bad idea?

Best Answer: scsi (Small Computer System Interface) adapter is a type of connection interface … and has become more widely used since the development of SATA hard-drives … put simply the RAID controller is for making 2 or more drives appear as a single drive (there are about 10 different RAID settings you can have … I said put simply)
Could be you just haven't installed the drivers for these two components … if everything is working fine … don't get too concerned

Re:HBA is short for Host Bus Adapter.

Cheers!

Re:Well, I realize it will be expensive, especially as I am reading more and more, (my last scsi experience was just snigle drives, not in this server type application) but I was hoping tospend no more then 300 for my scsi raid card… I would think for en entry level, this should be possible…

and thanks for the tips, gonna look for cards now…

(shudder….. ebay….)

Also, what's an "HBA"?

Re:Buying SCSI is like buying a boat. If you think you can do this without spending a lot of money you are mistaken!

That said, you can find a plethora of decent HBA's on ebay by searching for "megaraid".

Cheers!

Re:Yeah, just did some reading on the internet… Ok, so I am gonna go with the route of adapters, but where can I find more than 7 headson the ribbon? I also want to know, if I buy a 2 channel, can I raid drives across the two channels or can I only do that along one? Is there someplace I can go to read more about it?

Re:I doubt you will find even an 8 drive SCA enclosure for less than $400

Re:80 pin drives are SCA drives – they are designed to plug into the backplane of a server chassis and provide hotswap capability. You're not going to find a controller or ribbon with 80 pin connectors.
