Help UDMA Mode 5 in WinXP [intel application accelerator] [udma mode 5]

Q: How do I disable (ATA100) under Windows XP with SP1. The default UDMA mode 4 (ATA66) no matter what I do. The only way to is able to install the . However, for some reason, it changes the transfer mode of my dvdrom multi Word DMA 2 to pio4. So is there a way to UDMA 5 possible without installing the ?

Re:I have heard that WinXP will drop the UDMA speed on the drive if it gets a read/write error, etc. I had this issue as well. At the time, I had a Zip hooked on the same chain, so this might have been the reason for the errors or whatever was causing it to drop.

My solution – Install the , and forget about it.

Re:I have the same problem, so help would be appreciated.

Specs:
EPoX 4BDA
P4 2.0A @ 2.7GHz
512MB Corsair XMS3200
PNY GF4 Ti 4400 @ 4600
SBLive! Audigy
Linksys 10/100
WD 100GB Special Edition
Toshiba 16x DVD
Lite On 32×12x40 CDRW

I see we have the same motherboard (other than yours adding onboard RAID), so that might be the source of our problem. I guess I will try that Intel accelerator and hope it doesn't mess with my other drives :(

EDIT: I installed the utility and according to it everything is running in the proper mode :)

Re:BUMP

Anyone?

Re:Yes, the cables are ata100 for sure. With installed, it runs at and benchmarking with hd tach confirms it. However, the downside is that it forces my dvdrom to run at pio4. I have the Maxtor Diamond Max plus 30GB model.
I have p4-1.6A@2.24, i845 mobo (epox 4bda2+), 256MB of ram, with winxp sp1 and lastest intel chipset drivers. Oh well, i guess i'll just leave it alone.

Re:are your cables ATA100 for sure?

Re:what hdd do you have?
some manufacturers offer an utility to switch the ata mode of the hdd!

Re:not sure why, but my XP is running mode 5.

BIOS issue maybe?
Chipset driver issue?
80pin cable installed?

or maybe just not bother trying to solve this mystery?
