Q: I tried to upgrade my Ipaq 3635 with PPC 2002. Im not sure the right things to do and expect. My iPAQ is currently the ROM that was installed when I took out the box. I have the following questions:
1) Is there a way to backup the current ROM image? In case something does not go well in the upgrade.
2) Should I upgrade the ROM to something else for PPC 2002? Like ROM 1.77 or whatever it is.
3) How can I get my contacts, tasks, etc to recover? Ive heard that I do not need to restore using ActiveSync, the IPAQ just a new partnership with the machine and load my data from Outlook and money?

2. Not that I'm aware of, i updated the original ROM of my 3635 which i got Nov. 2000

That's how it's always done it for me.
I dont know about the rest, I've got a 3760 and it's ROM was always PPC 2002, good luck. If you have any problems and it's under warranty than I've heard they're pretty good about replacing it. If not maybe you could sell it "as is" on ebay
