Q: I use Windows 2000 and I will ensure that the correct password before I log out or restart the computer. I have no system was re-started for about 3 months and have forgotten the password. Is there a way to test the password, and log off before I go?
I tried net user to change the password, but I can not be sure that it worked or not. It did say it was sucessful.
I took the leap and just logged off. Apparently, the net user password change worked, if only my password has expired, forcing me to another repick.
Re:Or create another Admin account and set its password before logging out, so you have the ability to log on with that account and reset the usual Admin's password.

You could use the runas command, and try executing any program with the account
Or change the password, you need to know the old passsword to change it….
As admin you can do net user username newpassword and it would not require knowing the old password.

Re:You could always get one of those boot CDs that have password reset features as your just in case measure.
Re:I would guess that it's not possible for safety reasons. (e.g. If someone used your PC while you're logged in, you wouldn't want that person to know the password.) Just a guess.
