How can I synchronize my desktop and notebook? [win 2000] [notebook]

Q: I have a desktop running Win XP Pro and a laptop running Pro. I have them as a network, I can easily exchange files between two.

Is there a way I can synchronize all files in a particular directory, say “my documents” so that when I take the for a weekend working with and I can simply plug into the desktop and the way the desktop contains the updated files to?

I know I can just put everything on the laptop to the desktop (or vice versa transfer), but there are many files and many times only 10 or 20 files to be distributed updated.

I also know that I can search by date to . Problem with this is not automatic and I have yet to be defined / I can recreate subdirectories changed.

I s hope there is a way to accomplished.

I would really anyone who is willing to help me time Donate if this can be done!

Thanks

Re:I'm sure if you search on some free download sites you should be able to find software that does that. Reason being, as a programmer, I could probably write such a tool in less than a day, so there should probably be tons to such apps out there (considering their usefulness).

Re:I always equalize (synchronize is a technically incorrect term because by definition it relates to a time function) my desktop files to my before taklng off on a trip. There are special software packages that do that, but a fairly easy way is to have Explorer copy and entire data folder from one machine to the other. Another tool I have started to use is what is referred to as a "pen" or "key" drive that you slip into a USB port as a lettered drive. With a 256 MB one, you can pretty much put folders of data files on one and just slip it into your case. Another approach is to keep all data files on a Firewire or USB external minidrive and just take that with you. It plugs into the and desktop. That way no copying is necessary, and when you return home, you have all the changes ready to plug into your desktop.
