How can I troubleshoot XP automatically reboot? [asus mobo] [crash auto]

Q: My installation of XP Pro SP2 is fairly recent, ie about one-car crash month.
I encountered restart, the last two days.
Three times to be exact, and it does happen when the system is overloaded on the contrary, I d to surf the net or somethign of sort.

How do I troubleshoot this and what can it be?

Thanks.

Best Answer: If you are comfortable accessing your PC bios, then check your "I/O Device Configuration". I believe your choices are (ECP, EPP, SPP, Bi-Directional). Change to "Bi-Directional first, and if that does not work, try SPP.

Good Luck!

Re:Thanks to all of you for your responses. I can always count on people in this forum to come up with helpful suggestions.
At the bottom of the dump file I noticed an error in nadim.sys – after some research I found out this problem stems from something related to the network card, which made sense since It crashed while surfing the web.
It turns out an internet monitoring software i downloaded a few days ago, is known to crash the PC in that way – that program is NAD or Network Analysis Diagram – something like that.
Basically I uninstalled it this morning, and haven't had any problems since.
I'm pretty sure that was it.
Thanks again, and stay away form NAD :)

Re:Without analyzing the crash dump file, it's difficult to pin down. Some things to check:

1. Make sure your temperatures are not too high.
2. If you are overclocking any of your components, stop.
3. Download all the latest Windows updates.
4. Install all the latest WHQL-certified Windows drivers (NOT betas).

Re:Problems like what you're experiencing are almost always driver problems.

Beta drivers? That could be part of the problem. There's a reason why they're still called "beta."

Winternal's Administrator pack has a crash analyzer that will read the crash dump file and point you towards the problem. The last time I had to troubleshoot blue screens, I found out it was caused by a conflict between my network drivers and my software firewall. Keep looking … these problems can be tough to pinpoint, but with some persistance they are almost always solveable.

Re:I did that, the blue screen give me: Driver_irql_not_less_or_equal

Could it be the Video Card driver? which is the newest version of forceware beta?
Does this mean that we're talking about drivers or could it be a more serious hardware problem?

Re:You can start by setting your computer to NOT reboot when it suffers a critical system error. This should allow you the time to write down the error message. Once you've got the error message, google should prove helful.

Right Click on My Computer -> properties -> advanced -> Startup and Recovery -> Settings and then uncheck "automatically restart."

I don't think its a mobo or even a hardware issue. This sounds more like drivers to me. Googling error messages should help you find the culprit.
