Re:Why I cannot see messenger in the "add/remove" program even in "add/remove windows components" after I remove the "hide" in the "sysoc.inf" file? I am using Win XP Pro, is there any difference?
The line in "sysoc.inf" is like this:
msmsgs=msgrocm.dll,OcEntry,msmsgs.inf,,7
Any hints??
Thanks!

Re:I just went into options and unchecked the box that says, "Startup when Windows Loads" or something like that. It only comes up when I open Outlook, but I really don't pay attention to it.
Re:edit the \windows\inf\sysoc.inf, look for msmsgs, and remove "hide" (leave the commas). then use add/remove programs, its under windows components (or whatever they call it)… they call it "windows messenger" and ithas a gray diamond-shaped icon

Re:You know, I tried removing all that startup crap for messenger when I first got XP and it STILL loaded when outlook was launched.
Couldn't figure out where it was comming from so I had to uninstall to get it to go away. Doens't bother me since I don't use it though.

Another Good One!
You can also disable the auto-startup feature in the Preferences option of MSN MSGR and in Outlook if you want to keep the program installed but just don't want it starting up all the time.
Re:alternatively you could uninstall it through add/remove programs after editing sysoc in the windows inf folder!
Re:Thanks…that is exactly what I am looking for. I know I've seen it before, just couldn't remember the fix.
Re:Run Regedit.
In HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\MICROSOFT\WINDOWS\CURRE NTVERSION\RUN, delete the value named MSMSGS.
