Re:<< I can't seem to find it on any of the mirrors, and ftp.slackware.com is down. :o >>

Well it was released recently and announced on slashdot. Give it some time for the mirrors to all get updated and a lot of the early traffic to die down.

Re:<< Holy crap that was unexpected, Pat just flat out released 8.0
iso's should be showing up at all the mirrors.
I guess when you spend a year and a half in development you can skip the beta stage :)

Hopefully it's ready. If it is not it might hurt Slack's reputation… But I like the Slack developers so Ill give them the benefit of the doubt. I need more computers :P

Re:I already have that link, but it's a rather outdated version of slack, as bart said.

Re:Konichiwa, try this:

Re:eh, probably not. some of the core libraries have been updated in slack-current, and those older files are somewhat likely to just crap themselves. Besieds, you wouldn't want to use year-old versions of any software anyway.
the stuff that is certian to work can be found at ftp.slackware.org under the slack-current/contrib for contrib stuff, and /slakware for packages.(note the lack of a 'c') directory.

Re:Nice! How'd you manage to find that? :D

Also…can I use the contrib CD from the 7.1 release? I don't see a contrib ISO on that site, so I assume my 7.1 version works?

Re:found it :) Built this morning at 4:00am (though the last thing in the change log is from the 27th).

ftp://128.173.184.249/Linux/ISO/slackware-current-daily/

Re:7.1 is stable (though its so old you need to upgrade a lot the moment you install)
7.2 never really existed, you probably mean slack-current. Which froze for a beta just the other day.
8.0 is what slack-current will be called when it makes it through the beta's.

as for an iso, its tough. I live on a college campus where all the guys that helped me get into linux are slack-addicts, and even with our whopping T3 and the campus to ourselves we still haven't found a good source for iso's. I have a slack-current from 6/13, but on the 20th a bunch of things were updated.

I'll keep looking, because I have to reinstall a box anyway. Lemme know if you find it first.

Re:7.1's the stable release, 7.2's in development, dunno about 8.0, you sure you didn't mistaken it for Mandrake 8.0?

ftp.slackware.org

/pub/mirrors/slackware/slackware-7.1/iso/

Re:<< Correct, slackware 7.1 is the current version and 7.2 is in development >>

Why did someone mention 8.0 then? I cant keep up with all this :P

Re:Correct, slackware 7.1 is the current version and 7.2 is in development

Re:Wait, so is 7.2 the current version or 7.1? Seems to me that 7.1 is the current stable version and 7.2 is developmental? Is that right?

Re:<< Well, I suppose I could do that, but it's not very adventurous, is it? >>

56k'ers have been doing it for years ;) Plus you support the group that is producing the software.
