Q: It brings the “Windows Security” screen with lock computer, log off, shutdown, change password, task manager, and cancel, rather than the task manager. How do I automatically start task manager if I have 3 buttons?
Also when I shutdown push, it gives me a popup w / a drop-down box to my shutdown option, how do I get him to show the colorful three buttons (logoff, disconnect and reboot buttons)?
One last thing on the start menu, I set the notepad shortcut keys CTRL + F12 to bring the notebook. It doesnt work at all, whats wrong?

Try right-clicking on the taskbar or Start button, and checking on the properties pop-up dialog. If you can't find the setting to change the XP desktop, try using TweakXP. The setting will be in there somewhere. It may also be a setting in the Control Panel.
As for your ctr+alt+del probs, it could possibly be related to the above problem or it could be a change from SP1

where are the winXP desktop settings located at?
for the shortcut thing, i know it can work because i had it working just fine the first time ive had XP installed… now right after a fresh reinstall its not working!

Re:AFAIK you cannot change the dialog that comes up when you press ctrl+alt+del. However there may be some way to change it in the registry that I have not heard of.
To get it to display the three buttons you probably need to enable the WinXP desktop settings. They probably won't show up if you set it to look like Win2K.
As for your shortcut not working, I haven't used that method of setting shortcuts in a long time. I customized the Hotkeys on the top of my MS Natural keyboard for shortcuts to applications.
