Q: This is really strange! A few days ago I started getting pop-up ads on my desktop if I do not run programs including IE had. Can someone explain what is happening and how I go about getting rid of these ads?
Thanks,
Best Answer: Try booting into safe-mode and scanning with your antispyware programs there. I would also delete all previous copies of System Restore. To do this, run disk cleanup in the Start Menu >> Accesories >> System Tools directory. Click on "More Options" and hit the "Clean up…" button under the system restore part of the window. You may also want to go back to the main part of disk cleanup and remove everything except the WebClient/Publisher Temporary Files. Also, yes, it is possible that the spyware may have messed with the security settings. To check if this is so, go to Tools >> Options… in Firefox. Make sure both items are checked under the Cookies part of the window. Once you have confirmed this, click the "Clear Now…" Button under the Private Data part of the window and check everything and then hit "Clear Private Data Now" button.
To prevent spyware from ever getting onto your computer, download Spywareblaster from JavaCoolSoftware:
http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareb…
Download it and install it (close any browser you may have open before doing the install). Inside SpywareBlaster, update the definitions first by going to the "Updates" button and hitting "Check for Updates…". Once you have the most recent block definitions, simply go back to the "Protection Status" window and hit the "Enable All Protection". What spyware blaster does is it adds a TON of bad sites (popups, porn sites, spyware infected sites etc.) to both Firefox and Internet Explorers block lists of bad websites. That way, should you come in contact with the sites via popup or by accidental browsing, the browser will not run any content on there and may even restrict access to it and thus keep you safe from any spyware from those sites. I hope this helped you solve your problem!
Re:Get Noads, search it up on google! If i'm correct the website should be www.noads.com IT works great for me!!
Do you have problems with like the messenger stuff or is it just ads?
Re:Dang, my initial suggestion after looking at the subject was going to be "stop browsing porn sites!"
Re:some of those spyware programs are very difficult to eradicate. I had to boot into safe mode and delete a folder the other day, to get rid of hotbar in a client's computer. What a PITA!

run spybot search and destroy or adaware. You probably installed some adware like gator or gain.
guy, Thanks for the info! I found Gator on my PC along with a bunch of other crap. I used Spybot so I hope I've got everything.
Thanks,
Re:I've disabled messenger and I'm already behind a firewall. I'll try the above program and see what happens. Thanks!
