Q: I have a WinXP OEM product key. How can I check if the key is activated in the past?
(Im not asking how to find the product key used in an existing installation of XP.)
Best Answer: Belarc or SiSoft Sandra will tell you the key code which was used to install Windows (I haven't tried it with 2003 Server, though).
You will need to use the same CD to re-install.

Re:I get all my OSes from work as they buy volume licenses for multiple machines. Xp never asked me to activate it when I installed it. Don't know *shrug*
But anyway no there isn't a way to know if it's been used, but I'm sure if you put in a call to MS and ask about your specific situation.
Or you could try installing it on another HDD and see what happens.

I never activated XP at all, I just put in the key at install and done.

Yes – you do
I seem to recall that corporate XP version doesnt need activation. It's been awhile.

use it for an install and see if it bitches when you activate
I thought of that, but it's a OEM key. If I activate is successfully, wouldn't the OEM key be permanently married to that hardware? (I'm not ready to commit to the long term relationship)
