Q: Im finally starting to ripped more music (up to 320 CBR for my MP3 player) from CDs. How do you organize it? Do you have a folder just for the artist, or what?
Best Answer: By going to your shared files folder and organizing them there. That where the limewire folder reads from. Oh and by the way limewire is not illegal. As long as you use it for back -up purposes and you don't sell what you download. It's a P2P file propgram you use it to download files an not just music.

Re:For general albums:
Drive:\Media\Music\Artist\Album\Artist – Album – Track# – Title.ext
For compilation/"various artist" albums:
Drive:\Media\Music\Album\Album – Track# – Artist – Title.ext
I had to go back and fix about 2000 tags that MusicBrainz got wrong, which took me much more time than it would have done to get them sorted properly in the first place :disgust:
Older stuff that I've ripped is 128kbps MP3 (i know, I was young
) but all my newer stuff is 256kbps Ogg Vorbis

Then I use windows xp to sort by artist/album.
I'm starting to put them in folders now because now with over 2000 mp3s, it's taking a while to sort.

Re:I have 6 folders, called #-C, D-G, etc. to split up the files for easier access. If I have all the songs from an album, I have a folder in one of those 6 folders called "[Artist] – [Year] – [Album Title]". In that folder, I have the files labeled "[Artist] – [Track Number] – [Title].mp3". If I don't have all the songs from an album, I have them in one of those 6 directories and labeled as "[Artist] – [Title].mp3"
All my ID3 tags are [Artist] – [Title], though. If I want to listen to a specific album, I just open the folder and create a new playlist in Winamp with those files.

I like the genre because I can then just queue up the entire collection of "Classical" or "punk-pop"
Yea thats why I do it also. I like to queue up "New Age" when I go to bed
. Or Rock or Rap when I'm playing video games. Makes it very quick and easy.

Same way here. Then I use a playlist to filter it further. I've resorted to using Notepad for more thorough edits. Winamp's playlist editor is kind of useless if you have much more than 5 songs.
Once everything I want is in the playlist, and that's loaded, I can just press J and the entire list is right there. If I want something other than what's in the list, it's easy enough to open, or even add to the list.
So what do you do when you have more than one artist on a single album?
Simple. I don't get those kinds of CD's in the first place.
Up to you then – either a Misc category, or else put a separate folder in the respective artist's folder. Like \Avril Lavigne\Now 16\ or whatever the case may be.
Got more than one artist in one song? Then you're really screwed.
Re:I put it all into one folder if it's just a single song I've downloaded. Albums I organize a little better into folders and stuff. I really need to just delete a lot of it off because I'm on a temp. HD and I'd rather have games on here than gigs and gigs of music.
Re:music/artist/album/track# – track name
The track number is important to have first in the file name (for me) because I like everything to be album centric and that helps to keep things sorted when an alphabetic sort is applied. When I have a "various artists" cd I will either make a new folder on the level of artists for it, unless it's like a duet sorta thing and I have lots from one of the artists already. Like Clapton and BB Kings "Riding with the King" is under Eric Clapton, since I don't have any BB King solo albums.
Well, this was all really how I did it before I got my iPod. I mistakenly let iTunes have it's way with my collection and now it pwns me. The music folder is a complete mess and I'm gonna have alot of work to do if I ever move it all to another system…

Just grabbed and having it tag my music as I type this. Only 40GB to tag… LOL ![]()
Re:Music\Genre\Artist\Artist – Song Name.mp3
I've left out the track number and album since they arn't really needed once everything is on the computer, but you can add those in. The thing I wish I had done from the beginning was put everything in the right genre, it keeps it less chaotic. Lots of times an Artist can fit under multiple genres, in these cases, I pick the genre that they are most identifiable with.
Re:whatever you do, out them all in one folder, I have 3000+ songs/files in one folder. If I didn't, I'd wear out my left click. It's also easier to see all your songs at once, so you can peruse them all in Windows environment using "list". If you have a huge list like most do, just hit the letter of the band and you'll jump to that place in the folder.

In the event that i have multiple artists on an album i use the following : Compilation Name – Artist – Track # – Title.mp3
