Q: I installed AIM on my home machine and the folder copied to a USB drive.
It wouldnt run in the absence msvcr71.dll.
Added that file to the USB drive, and it worked without any problems.
However, I cannot get Yahoo Instant Messenger to double click and nothing YPager.exe happens.
It work.
I give any error messages about missing dlls or anything.
Any ideas on how to get this to work?
P.S. I already know I could use GAIM or something else, but I would really like to YIM to work on themselves to get. Thanks!
Best Answer: 1 Ram cards belong in the #1 and #3 slots…(if you are using two cards)
#2 Why do people say "it's not on the QVL..but it should work"

The less expensive(note that I refrained from saying cheap)PSU's sometimes
don't supply an even flow of current…especially at upper levels of output…
Not trying to be a jerk…and if that Salano is their full tower case…I have been considering it as I REALLY want a full tower, but the money most of them want for them is out of my reach(when put together/w the rest of the parts) and I like Antec but that 200mm top fan (on the 1200) has got to go so in all likellyhood, it will end up being a 300 Illusion…

Im guessing YIM is dependent on registry entries =/
Yes, i'd assume so.
Re:I will give Miranda a try
Just so you know… I tried this program (http://www.dependencywalker.com/) on the target machine and it only showed me missing an apphelp.dll file
I added that file to it and it still wouldnt run
Im guessing YIM is dependent on registry entries =/

I carry Miranda around with AIM, ICQ, Yahoo, and IRC around on my USB drive. It also includes the weather plugins for my local forecast and there is also a Gmail notifier plugin I really like as well.
I'll just ditto this suggestion. Miranda works perfectly for your situation.

Re:Yes, Trillian will let you use the program and it only installs to the directory you point it to, so you wouldn't have any problem in that sense.. but I had problems with getting Yahoo to work in Trillian, so usually I don't use Trillian for yahoo anymore since it seems pretty flaky (I did apply the yahoo patch to it too, unless there's a newer patch).

calin, thanks… this is actually what I tried…
I installed yahoo messenger on my computer and it wroks fine
then I copied the Yahoo! folder in my Program Files folder onto my USB drive
I put the USB drive on another computer, doubleclick YPager.exe and nothing happens
i'm going to go out on a limb here and assume there are some registered DLL files or registry settings required

Re:If you have an computer without Yahoo Messenger, you could find all the files installed by it. Then copy all those files into the folder where the executable file resides
Re:thanks HN, I really dont want to use web based versions though
anyone know how I could get YIM to work without installing it?
