How is it that Win 2K SP2 was only a 13MB download from Windows Update? [heck] [laptop]

Q: I have the 103MB file from a while back, but Im a clean install on my . I decided to run Windows Update and SP2 downloaded from the website for the of it. The download is only ~ 13MB.

Anyone else noticed?

Re:I haven't re-formatted and installed Windows 2000 Pro yet. Can I still download (SP2-full) for 2000 Pro? Or will I have to download the SP2 Network Installation to get the full SP2?
I was going to order the CD until I saw that it "costs U.S. $14.95 plus $5 shipping and handling"! Screw that idea, Bill doesn't need anymore money. :D

Re:I have. Can't remember the exact size of the update, but it was sure in the 13MB range, and certainly not anything like 103MB.

Re:Has anyone else w/ SP1 ran windows update to download SP2? From the replies in this thread I don't think any of you have. ;)

Re:guy,

Windows Update saw what you currently had installed (HotFixes, Security updates, SP1, etc.) and will only install what is necessary. The 110MB SP2 file is the COMPLETE SP2 installation for every build of Windows 2000; Professional, Server, Advanced Server, and Datacenter.

Just be glad that only 13MB what downloaded and installed.

Re:Well the full download as a single file for Sp2 was ~ 100MB. I am just curious as to why the windows update was so tiny when I had Sp1 installed. It says SP2 in my system properties.

Re:Is the 13Meg version also able to do a slipstream integration? Maybe that's what calls for the 90 extra Megs.

Re:So 90megs were from sp1? Can't be that much bloat in sp2…. can there?

Re:My download of the full SP2 was 103MB.

Re:Don't worry, be happy ;)

Re:Actually I had SP1 already installed. So it looks like you only get a 13MB update if that's the case….odd.

Re:if you do if from windows update, it only downloads the files you need. Although since you just did a fresh install that does seem a little fishy.

Re:The 100+ meg file contains updates for everything, including things you don't have. When you do the update via windows update, you only get updates for what you currently have.
