Re:For real. I'm thinking its gonna be a while till i get Vista.
Yeah i cleaned out my background stuff msconfig and now i have about 200-220 mb of ram at my disposal better but not great. but thanks for the help.!
Re:Will your pc run vista article (http://www.eweek.com/article2/0,1895,1843945,00.asp)
"Older CPUs with 128 or 256 MB of memory and older graphics will be capable, he said."
The 2GB is "ideal" for vista 64-bit only, 32-bit will run fine with 1gb and 64-bit will also probably manage with 1gb. Apparently since 64 bit is handling chunks of data 2x the size then it needs twice the memory. So i read on another site.

Mine uses around 200mb with IE running, and if Vista is that demanding I won't bother upgrading…
seriously
god forbid you'd have to run something else other than the OS
what about high end games?
consumers will start needing high end servers just to run basic apps

XP Pro-64 takes about 350 MB RAM including I-explore, so I'm not really surprised.
Windows Vista is supposed to require 2 GB of RAM at minimum, HDD with Flash storage, a 128 MB video card minimum. Don't ask me why it needs all that.
that's garbage man.. i'll stick with XP/2k if that's true for vista. i mean good god.
Re:~200MB with two IE, MIRC, and A/V running.

And eventually I will stop caring about video games
Heathen!

The 2 GB of RAM doesn't bother me, the fact that MS gets all rights to your soul does. Just check the EULA.
Screw that. When the time comes I'll just put Win2000 on all my machines. No activation required. And eventually I will stop caring about video games. The only hard part is making sure I have SP4 on the disc.

Re:my god, who would buy vista if it required 2 gigs of ram?
computer prices im guessing are going to go through the roof because of that
Re:Zebo(IIRC) said in another thread that he was down to 80something mb!! Can be done, but a standard XP install will generally use 200ish mb, add in a few other things and 512mb isn't far away.
Just for reference currently my WinXP 64 is using 502mb! 100mb of that is BOINC running 2 instances(just realized earlier today how much ram it used, 2gb seems all the more attractive!
), Another 100mb are 6 different apps running, most of the rest is basic Windows stuff.

Uninstall that Free Ram XP PRO garbage and go to start > run > msconfig and cleanup your startup group and unecessary 'non Microsoft' services.
Re:Xp Pro SP1 take around 120MB of ram with firefox on, without bloatware

Re:might be too many idle processes running. disable them in msconfig from starting. also, do some registry maintenence.
