how much space is not really into Vista / need [apps] [crap]

Q: I know that the installer says 15 performances, people have said about 11ish. I do not have much space, but many and things like that do everything I need is already on my system. Ive basically got about 18-20 gigs free, and I really deleted most of what I could, or backup to DVD . I know how big my XP when I install one, but it finishes growing up. Im guessing is Vista to 15 appearances in total, and my XP was around 5-6 I would have left about 10 gigs afterwards.

What s a comfortable amount of space to run on Vista? Ill probably be something along the way HD soon, but for now Im sitting with a copy of Vista Ultimate and not sure if I have trouble now or wait until the new HDs installed.

Best Answer: Try cleaning up your Temp directory. Navigate to C:\Users\your username\Appdata\Local\Temp and delete just about everything there. Some files won't let you delete them. This is OK. Skip them.

Scan for malware. Something may be using your hard disk as offline storage.

Hope that helps.

Re:30 GB minimum for Windows Vista partition with applications. If you use a whole lot of applications then 35 to 40 GB minimum partition on your new Western Digital Raptor 150 GB hard drive. Remember there will soon be a huge SP1, 2, 3 …

Also remember that depending on how much ram you have will depend how big your paging file is.

My page file use to be only 4 GB but not its 8 GB because I upgraded from 2 GB of ram to 4 GB of ram. THe page file can get quite large the higher you upgrade your total ram amount. So lets say you upgrade your ram to 8 or even 16 GB your page file alone would be 16 to 32 GB :Q

Re:I might look into that, I loved 98lite, but before I jumped on this I'd want to find out exactly what's missing. I don't have a lot of hands on with Vista, but I don't want to save a bit of disk space and loose features that might be useless, but are kind of cool. I'm definitely going to Google Vista Ultimate Lite thanks man

Re:Look for Vista Ultimate Lite if you are concerned about disk space. The whole installer is on one CD and i think installed is less than 2 GB

Re:I could squeeze 20 gigs out of my C partition but no sense in pushing it that close I suppose, besides my wireless adapter isn't Vista ready so maybe I'll just wait until I get the new HD + the wireless card and not worry. very tempting to try with 20 gigs though! :)

Re:When I tested Vista back in the day, I usually gave it 20-30GB and found that sufficient even without disabling anything, although you can get by with 15GB if you are careful with the OS. Still, for the best experience I would give it more room to grow, so it might be worthwhile to test it now with 15GB or so and use it more seriously once you get the new HDD.
