Re:You shouldn't have any problems with SCSI in that setup, as long as you don't get a no-name controller.
Win2k gives you the opportunity to provide the necessary drivers while you are installing.

And dual processor, all SCSI systems ROCK! my Dual PIII450, all SCSI system runs circles around the Dell P4 1.5GHz system that I use at work, when multitasking…and I built this sytem years ago.

Re:What are you using your system for exactly? Remember the current XP's have SMP disabled so I'm not so sure about dual cpu's without an MP.

Re:no that is the geforce3 is the best thing under 1000, not that it is 1000. The wildcat 2 is better then the the geforce but it is more than a grand. The g3 is around 300, and yes to some it is worth it.

The ram will matter, with that system you need name brand and possible ecc, any of the good brands (crucial, corsair, mushkin, etc).
WD is pretty good of a hard drive, but maxtor also makes 100gb 7200rpm ($240).

Yes you would notice an improvement over the ide, but its going to cost you.

Re:Holy crap! :Q

That's sounding like way more than what I had expected. Hmmm … SCSI does sound nice – but will I have any probs? Driver probs etc? I use 2K and possibly dualboot with XP in the future.

So I'm looking at a Tyan mobo, dual Tbird XP 1800s, 1GB DDR – does the brand for that matter or no? And 100GB WD. I never liked WD… how is that drive? Does it take hours to format?? :Q

GF3 "under 1000"? That sounds insane. Is it worth paying such a price? I think it would be wiser to wait for prices to drop, for the video at least. Video isn't VERY important to me but I want something that'll at least make good use of the cpu power. I think an all-scsi system with dual XPs would be pretty sweet though. And since I'd b going scsi, I think I'd have to get lower GB higher RPM cuz it'll be expensive as hell if I get massive gigabyte-age hd that's scsi!

Will it be a lot faster with scsi?

Re:I belive the tyan is probably the best. You can get a model with scsi and all the bells and whistles or w/o…I think the striped version is like 200+…A bunch of mpx boards are soon to be released by all the main board manufacturers so that price may come down and have many more to choose from.

Get a good 430+ watt ps too. probably just at 100.00

(2)1800xp's w/ stock hsf= 440.00
1024mb pc2100 = ~120.00

I believe I saw a couple 100giggers for over 200 bucks

Get the GF3 ti 500…fastest card availble= 315.00

well over 1300.00 bucks at this point…

Re:Dual XP's – not officially supported my AMD, but rumored to work
Biggest 7200rpm drive is 100gb (western digital)

If you're gonna bother with a dual-cpu/1gb ram system, why not go all the way to SCSI drives (for boot, and maybe a IDE for mass storage).

Geforce 3 TI 500 is currently the 'best' video card (<$1000)

for prices, I would check www.pricewatch.com to get a general idea of what things are going for.

Re:You only have a couple of dual AMD boards out there (Gigabyte, Tyan). I would go with the Tyan tiger S2460
