Q: win98se can I stop programs running in the background using the Start / Accessories / System Tools / System Information, then the tools dropdown menu, then click the System Configuration Utility-u003e tab up, then clearing the checkbox next to the boot entry. In win2k if I click on the tools dropdown menu in System Information, there is no System Configuration Utility. I looked through win2k to help and did an investigation and could not find its location. Where is the System Configuration Utility in win2k?

Re:You don't need software. You can do it manually with regedit.
Here's how,
Start–>RUN–>regedit.
In regedit expand HKEY_Local_Machine
then:
expand Software
Then:
expand Microsoft
then:
expand Windows
then:
expand Current Version
Then:
find Run.
This is where all of the programs that are loaded on startup are defined. You can just delete the one's that you don't want to run anymore. Be carefully in the registry, you can pooch your system real good if you aren't carefull. Just take out stuff that you're sure is safe, example: Real Player…McAfee…ect.
