How to increase your framerates in a game? [gts 32mb] [geforce2 gts]

Q: I play HL and TFC and have a CS.
I 32mb
Running ME
I windows just upgraded from my old comp. that was a 4MB onboard. lol, so I was never interested in TFC before.
I now get 72fps and it just tops off the lower spikes but never exceeds that of even 0.1 . do not mean to be greedy Im just curious . Overclocking the vidcard would do or is there another way?

thx

Best Answer: It won't help. You have a 32-bit system. The practical limit in Windows for 32-bit ram is less than 3GB

http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/… this is slightly misleading.

http://www.codinghorror.com/blog/2007/03… explains it better. Even with a 64-bit OS you still have to have the right hardware to make good use of even 4GB.

Re:The fastest framerates with your system will be achieved at 640 x 480 x 32. Try that setting and then work your way up from there.

Re:LOL; sorry I can't afford the GeForce3. In my dreams….

Re:how about a better video card? ;)

Re:ok i reset it to 100 by, like stated above, fps_max 100. Now I get in the 90's sometimes a hundred in the next couple of weeks I will be overclocking and then we'll see what it can reallly do:D

thanks for the help

Re:What is your monitor refresh rate set to? Sounds like 85 to me ;)

Re:anyone know how to increase your refresh rate I have my HL frame rate set to 100 but it stops at 85 that my refresh rate and it wont go any higher at 1024 res.

Re:It's fps_max xx I believe.

Re:HL caps the framerate at 72 by default but you can uncap it. Check planethalflife.com for the console command. Good luck!

Re:Check out this thread (http://{$MySite}/messageview.cfm?catid=33&threadid=381284) right next to yours. Basically, disabling V-sync and using the fps_max command will increase your framerate. But IMHO v-sync off looks very crappy. I'm more interested in figuring out how to get my monitor to refresh at a faster rate in-game so I can have a higer FPS with V-sync on. Can this be done?
