Re:Teezle, There is a product made to fix scrached cd's. I think it costs around $25 but is a lot cheaper than buying new office. I think it is some kind of an epoxy that you mix and pour over the cd. I have not used but have seen it.
Re:Thanks a lot for the help guys. Basically my Office 2K cd was too scratched up and couldn't be read from the cd-rom. So since it was already installed in Win98 I just wanted to update into windows2K. But I did a reformat and a full install. Believe it or not my problem was that I didn't copy the win\upgrade folder form the win2k directory!!!! That was it!!! Now I have to shell out more money for a darn office 2K cds. Oh well. Thanks for all the help you all. You all are great
Thanks!
Re:guy,
Will there be a problem with Fat32/NTFS ?? What about updating the registry with his applications ?? The data will be accessible, but he'll probably have to reinstall some applications, depending on what's set up for 98 vs NT/2000…
I tried going from 98-2000 and had loads of problems… You are better off backing up, and doing a clean install using NTFS, on a clean drive…It will save you alot of headache in the long run…
Re:Why don't you want to do a clean install?
You can do a clean install without formatting your drive you know.
Just clean out the C:\ and C:\Windows directories (and maybe the C:\Windows\System) then do a clean Win2k install, it won't detect a previous operating system, will do a clean install, and all your data will be intact.
If you look at this page (http://www.microsoft.com/windows2000/upgrade/path/noupgrade.asp) you'll see a list of things that would cause a Win9x->Win2k upgrade to fail, perhaps Win2k is detecting one of those and won't allow you to upgrade because it knows it will fail. If you really want to upgrade, try checking this list and making sure you have non of these problems.
Upgrading from Win98 to Win2k is really not a good idea…you can very easily do a clean install to the same partition without losing any of your data.
Re:Here (http://www.microsoft.com/windows2000/upgrade/path/win9x.asp)
I think that will do.
Re:I do remember seeing it is possible to upgrade to win2k form win98 on Microsfots website. I believe if you go the windows 2000 section of their site they show what os's can upgrade and how to. Sorry I didnt post a link but it shouldtn be too hard to find. Good Luck. By the way as far as I know when I put my full cd in I was able to get a full upgrade option but there are going to be some compatiblity issues with your software and hardware. The windows 2000 cd has a feature in which it develops a report on what devices and software need to be updated before you install windows 2000. You should grab the updates before you go through with it to save some trouble. Also your better off reformatting and just saving any information you need. Might as well start your win2k experience on the right foot.
Re:WHne i put my full version in with Win98 on my machin it said
:The cd u have put in contains a newer version of windows, click
here to upgrade or some such message.
Re:I know it's not recommended but how do you do it? Please help.
