Q: I have sadly underdeveloped networks, so please bear with me. Im trying to get my fiance for wireless laptop (that parts easy enough), but it should follow its desktop Internet connection and use the printer. Ive tried the Windows Networking Wizard, but it will not creat a network that the laptop can see if access.
I m so lost with this: confused:
Re:I think you would have to have a bridge between the wireless and the wired. I think XP can do this. Just dont use the same IP addresses as your DHCP on your wired router. It would cause conflicts.
This might help:
http://www.homenethelp.com/web/howto/windows-xp-bridge.asp
A bridge connects two networks so they can talk to each other like they were one network. Normally a wireless network is on a different workgroup than the wired one or a different sub-net. So they can not see each other. A bridge connects them.
I would consider a wireless/wired router a worthy investment.
Re:Setup Internet via NIC on PC (make sure Router is not using 192.168.0.X network, if it is, change it). Setup ICS to use the wireless adapter, configure Ad Hoc connection, Connect laptop to Ad Hoc connection, should now get ICS generated IP and surf just fine.

Werent you trying to do this without a router? Also if i remember correctly u cant mix ad-hoc with a router it then has to be in infrastructure mode.
Mah….
So, since I'm totally inept with networking….perhaps it would be easier if I just got myself an access point or something. I wish I could get it running otherwise though.

Re:Is there some way to make it work with the ad-hoc and my router? It keeps saying something about a conflict on the network, IP addresses and such. Is there a way that I can have it manually set the IP addresses to the ad-hoc or should I do it in the router?

Ok well since you are not interested in a wirless router or ap then what guy posted with the link Making the Wireless Home Network Connection in Windows XP Without a Router (http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/networking/expert/bowman_02april08.mspx) should accomplish what you want to do.
Thanks! ![]()

Do you have a wireless router or wireless access point. Also i suggest you read this http://www.{$MySite}/guides/viewfaq.aspx?i=122 its alittle outdated but has basics.
All I have are two wireless cards, one USB one PCMCIA. I'm reading the wireless article so hopefully it yields some results.
Sadly I cannot afford an access point or router, I'm trying to keep costs low and use what I have.

Re:It depends on your Setting but an inexpensive Wireless Cable/DL Router would be a much bet5ter solution.
Otherwise, this might help, http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/networking/expert/bowman_02april08.mspx
