argh~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ thanks, now I got it!
just one more question, is it possible for some software only able to print w/ HP printer but not other name brand?
Yeah it is possible but that would also mean that they built the drivers into the software and don't use any of windows controls for printing.
I don't know of any respectable software developer that would tie a person down to one printer.
Most likely the software only prints correctly with a PCL5e driver. Which is very possible. Your friend probably just assumes that only HP makes a PCL5e driver for printers.
Of course the cheapest laser printers that I have seen with PCL5e drivers happen to be HP printers.

Re:If you are looking for something that uses a HP PCL5e driver then you obviously have to get an HP printer.
My point is why does it have to be the HP PCL5e driver? Why can't it just be a PCL5e driver?

Re:Why are you confused??????
PCL is the language some printers speak. HP makes their PCL driver for their printer and Xerox makes the PCL driver for thier printers. It is as simple as that.
Another example for you. Both a Geforce4 and a Radeon both use OpenGL but you sure as hell can't use an NVIDIA driver on a ATI card.
I know for a fact that Brother, Lexmark and Xerox both make PCL printers. Just take the time to visit their websites and find a printer that fits your needs.

Really? so bascially most of laser printer use hp driver?
Now that's good news.
NO….
Most laser printers do use PCL or PS. But that doesn't mean it uses the HP implementation. That is like saying that a ford V8 engine is exactly the same as a Toyota V8.
PCL is the language. HP and any company can write the drivers to deliver however the hardware demands.

PCL is the language the printer uses. Most printers can use PCL5 or PCL6. Of course then you have PS drivers which are good for postscript printing.
