I am building an Athlon T-Bird 1.2, What are the three best things for the money? [welcome thanks] [athlon]

Q: Im building an T-Bird 1.2, What are the three best things for the money? Im looking for less than $ 100 to spend and want to keep the case cool.Any ideas would be much cheaper appreciated.Modified cases are welcome, thanks again.

Best Answer: CoolerMaster Centurion case is only $10 more. It gets universally great reviews, and is the best in its price bracket.

OCZ StealthXstream/FSP Epsilon is serviceable and cheaper. Real 600w unit for just $50. Not the greatest, but it should last a few years.

Spend another $20 or so to get a hard disk that's several times larger and at least twice as fast. A 160GB unit is false economy; look at the price per GB, too

HD4830 is faster and should run $90-100.

Re:How about the Addtronics 6890A case?

Re:I'll be the first real Fong Kai supporter. Got my black FK320 for $98 from directron.com (http://www.directron.com/fk320.html) and it's great.

The other case I really looked at was the Antec SX830. Great case, too.

Re:guy yes it can, there are other threads about that very same question that you can view. The only thing you have to do is remove the underside fan grill pop the psu in and reinstall the grill. It takes a few minutes more of effort but its worth it.

Re:So, can the enermax be used in the PC-60?

Re:For the money, nothing beats an InWin Q500. Can get them w/300 Watt PS for under $100. I can get them locally here for $79 plus tax. They're amazing.

Re:<< A junior member asks for a $100 case suggestion and gets jammed right past $200- What are we, used car salesmen? >>

Agreed. The cheapest available Lian Li pc-60, when a power supply is included the price,is over double the amount specified in the original question.

Furthermore, I have serious doubts that the additonal objective gains, such as increased cooling, you would get from an aluminum case justifies the cost over the Antecs.

That said, I think the Lian Li is a beautiful looking case.

Re:On a budget, I think the InWin Q500 should get a vote. Mine came with a 300 watt P.S. and plenty of room on the inside. It's also built like a tank. No sharp edges. This has everything a beginner could possibly need. Got mine for less than $95 shipped, but I think it can be found for cheaper since I got stuck for $20+ shipping.

Re:Just found the answer to one of my own questions: the feet on the Antec can swivel in so as not to stick out. Sweet.

(And guy supplied the answer anyway, thanks!)

Re:the feet that stick out swivle in so that wouldn't be a problem.

Re:I read that you can't use Enermax or similar 2-fan PSUs with the Lian-Li because the PSU mounts upside-down. Is this really the case?

As for the Antec, can the "feet" that stick out the sides be removed? The space I have doesn't allow for feet.

Thanks.

Re:If you have the time here's a review of the pc-60 the last page should give you a bit more info. to chew on. Heres the link lian-li pc60 review (http://www.gamepc.com/reviews/hardware_review.asp?review=lianlipc60&page=1&mscss id=&tp=)

If you decide to go with this case after checking the others out mwave (http://www.mwave.com) looks to have the cheapest price at 165.00. they market it as their brand mwave pc-60

Re:My only concern with the Lian Li is that it only includes front and rear fans. Most of the good cases also include side fans and some include top fans. Does the aluminum case make up for the lake of additional fans if you want to overclock?

Re:I'm agree with guy. Antec Performance series case is good.

Re:Look at the Antec SX-830 or SX-1030 (http://www.antec-inc.com/product/cases/perfhome.html). Good quality with good stock cooling for that 1.2 T-bird.

Re:Its obviously one part that isnt going to be replaced if you make a wise decision early for a few years anyway so why nickel and dime yourself to death bying a cheap one when youll just turn around and get something else six months later. Spend a bit more upfront and be happier long term with your decision.

Re:We just couldnt help it :) its just 65 bucks more. one less night out for happy hour would make up the difference, and you know going in that this case is designed to cool the 1.2ghz toaster. Actually the antecs are good cases just make sure you dont get a case that obstructs the air intake fan on the front of it.

Re:Ok, I'll start up the sx-Antec chorus. And why not? The Fong Kai FK320 Is the only real competitor in the $100 price range with similar features and comparable power supply.

Either one is a no-brainer, especially for a junior member on a budget.

Use the search function here and at Ars Technica to chase down some meaningful discussion…

A junior member asks for a $100 case suggestion and gets jammed right past $200- What are we, used car salesmen?

Re:lian-li pc60 is absolutely beautiful but its 165.00 without the psu if your willing to go above 100 bucks. Get ready for the antec case suggestions to begin.:D Heres a look at the Pc60 (http://direct.mwave.com/mwave/doc/a03018.html).

Re:Lian Li pc-60, it's light, sturdy, and disappates heat nicely with it's all aluminum body. it's also more quiet than most other boxes out there. get it, you won't be sorry.
