I have a decent 24 port switch and would love recommondations. [3com superstack 3] [intel switch]

Q: I am looking for a managed 24 port switch with gigabit uplink preference (not copper fiber)

I have looked at the 3Com Super Stack 3s specifically the 3300 TM and Intel switches including the switch 460t.

My question is what is best of hte above the two or do you look for another switch that is Linksys etc.

Added the following information for the . Can not seem to find the info for 3Com. Also how much should I pay for this use?

Intel Express 460T info: 12 000 977 503 977 503 977 503

MAC Addresses Buffer size 12Mbytes 977 503 9.6 Gbps Backplane

Store u0026 forward switching mode

I am also considering the D-Link DES-3326 with the following features

8.8Gbps switching fabric capacity
Store u0026 forward switching mode
Support 16K MAC address packet buffer memory, 6MB
Support
Support Broadcast storm control function
Support Port Mirroring
Port trunking support on all 10/100 Mbps ports. Eight ports of the same speed can be combined to form a trunk group. Up to three Trunk can be established.
802.1D Spanning Tree support
802.1Q Tagged VLAN support 96 static VLAN or VLANs supported Dynamic 2K per unit) Includes GVRP (GARP VLAN Registration Protocol) VLAN support for automatic configuration distribution.
802.1p priority support (4 priority queues)
Support IGMP Snooping Support Broadcast Multicast Control
Layer2 GMRP (GARP Multicast Registration Protocol)

I had previously not been considered as the Netgear FS518T because it only has 16 ports, but I think it would can also be an option.

Re:Actually i think i can trac down the modual for the 460t for about 250.00 or so. However I could also get a 510t sans modual for about the same price. My question then is sould i go for the 460t or the 510t?

racmount btw is not nescessay.

Re:You are right – I just saw it in a magazine today. Beware, however – The price for the module alone was $950. Cheaper just to get the Linksys.

Oh, and the same catalog had the new Cisco 2950 switch – Also exactly what you want for about $1800. Still price compared to Linksys and Netgear, however.

Re:In your first message, you said you wanted gigabit over copper, not gigabit over fiber which is what's offered by the Intel, unless they have some kind of expansion card not listed on their website.

If you can get one for that price then yes, that's a good deal. If you do get a fiber gigabit port remember you still need to buy a GBIC for a couple of hundred bucks (unless the used switch comes with one). Fiber NIC's are also very expensive compared to gigabit over copper ones.

Re:Both the Intel and D-Link only support gigabit over fiber. Check Linksys who has a 24-port switch that's exactly what you are looking for. Netgear also has a 16-port version. Both are available for <$700.

Re:Take a look at the HP Procurve Switches. The 4000 model has 40 ports, plus expansion slots for gigabit ethernet, fiber, more 10/100 ports, and so on. The price is quite reasonable as well. These things have outperformed the 3com switches at my company, and the support is much better.
