I have a problem deal with Verizon Online DSL and my WRT54G [westell 6100 modem] [dd wrt]

Q: I have a search and tried a few things, but not luck.
I m using a and the WRT54G firmware (DD-WRT V23) 0.
I can come online only in connection I once modem.
But the router, I can not online.
I have been to the router page and change the DHCP setting of the PPP setup saved and restarted, even router.
I called Verizon, but that made no difference.
Does anyone have any ideas?

Re:Ok, here's the deal.
When I first got the Verizon DSL kit, I spent about 20 minutes hooking everything up and about 5 hrs trying to get online with my WRT54G.
After talking with 3 different Verizon reps in those 5 hrs, I quickly realized that I was alone in dealing with this.

Anyway, I decided to shutoff power to both the router and the westell 6100 for a few hrs.
I also removed the verizon broadband connection in the network connections section.
I then powered up everything all over again, then manually entered the verizon broadband connection in my network connections.
After that, I went to my routers page, and changed the connection to the PPPOE option.
Note that Verizon DSL in my area runs on PPPOE, based on what the reps said.
Also, I wanted to mention that before I did all of this, I already had the PPPoE configuration.

I have no idea why it didn't work before, but now it works fine.
I'm the type of person that wants to know the cause of something like this so that I could prevent it in the future.
Hopefully, everything will be fine.

Re:guy

On the Westell the login in defaults back to:

Login: Admin
Pwd: password

This is what it will be at if the router / dsl modem was reset
with the little recessed button & also if the user never changed
the admin password

Hope it helps

Don't bother calling up Verizon tech support, they are all drones reading from a script. Here's how you can fix the problem:

1. Login to your Westell DSL modem.
2. Disable the DHCP server on the modem (found under Settings->DHCP Configuration), set it to off.
3. Set the modem into Ethernet bridge mode (not Routed bridge). You will find this setting under Settings->VC Configuration.
4. Save the configuration and it will ask you to soft reset the modem, answer yes.
5. Connect the modem to your router while it's resetting and connect your comupter back to the router to login to it.
6. Go to Setup->Basic Setup and select Internet connection type, ie: DHCP or PPPoE. Not sure, but I think Verizon uses DHCP. Save settings.
7. Go to Setup->MAC Address Clone then enable it and click on the "Get current PC MAC address" button. Save settings.
8. Go to Status page and check your IP address under the Internet section. If you did everything above correctly, you should get a valid public IP address assigned by Verizon. You may have to hit the "DHCP Renew" button for the router to send a request.

Hope that helps.

#6 Verizon uses DHCP

#7 I tried enable MAC address clone and it doesn't work..So I disabled Mac Adress clone it works.

#6. Verizon doesn't always use DHCP. But a sure way to find out is to have the modem detect the WAN configuration (I am positive his particular modem model supports that, I just worked with one last week).

#7. Given the description of his problem where his computer gets on fine, but when it's plugged into the router it is not. The problem is with the DSL modem remembering the MAC address. I've seen this happen on multiple Verizon DSL service I've setup.

I don't have westell 6100 dsl/router and I am using westell 2110 dsl modem.

First you have to find were the authentication is done.

Verizon uses Id and PW No MAC (MAC is a Cable thing Not DSL).

If you installed PPPOE software the ID and PW should be there, otherwise it is in the Westell Modem/Router.

Once you have the ID and PW (you cam even call Verizon and ask to reset them to new ones), disable the Router part of the Modem (as stated above).

Then read this, DSL PPPOE and Cable/DSL Routers. (http://www.ezlan.net/PPPOE.html)

:sun:

Sorry, but with a lot of the Verizon DSL service I've worked with not a single one uses PPPoE authenthication anymore.

And if he wants to put a router in the mix, he needs to disable the built-in router on that modem. The Westell 6100 model is a DSL modem and router in one. If he wants to use his own router, he needs to put the DSL modem into Ethernet bridge mode.

Better yet, here's a link to a step by step instruction page made by a Verizon subscriber:

I had this exact same problem with the exact same router. After words i quit trying to hook up the router to the verizon dsl, and put it back on my comcast cable modem. It would work there either. so i ended up getting a new router. Now it works fine with my comcast cable modem. Im too scared to try it on my verizon dsl.

But im willing to try if i could just log in to the damn thing.

Any help?

after i set up verizon dsl for the first time, they set my westell's user/pass to the same as the one used for my verizon dsl account info.
