I have a problem on my 2K box display [screensaver tab] [google]

Q: Okay. I was installing a new screensaver on my PC. It was one that was a exe file.

Since when I right-click (desktop, go) u003e Properties and click on the screensaver I get the following error: error occurred while Windows

An was working with the Control Panel file C: Windows System Desk . cpl.

I it to another PC and 2K copied the file back into my system and that does not heal anything. I tried and I found this:

http: / / support.microsoft.com / default.aspx? Kbid = 217752

Is there another way around this problem? This is my work PC and I would rather not mess with the video driver .

Thanks for all the help you can offer .

Re:Thanks for your help guys. I got it fixed. I did a search for all files created that day around the time I installed the screensaver. There were 2 files that I blew away and it took care of it.

Ok I don't have the cd. I do have the I386 folder but when I ran the utility it kept asking for my cd. I had to hit cancel a bunch of times. Anything else to try?

Just direct (browse) to the i386 directory on your HD instead of the CD.

Re:Was the screensaver from a trusted source?
Did you scan it?

Re:I had the very same problem.

For me, it was a sort of convoluted solution of removing the screensavers from the directory they get installed into.

That solved it. Desk.cpl didn't give me errors.

P.S. Which screensaver was it?

Re:Have you tried using the System File Checker (SFC)?
To run, go to:
START \ RUN and type sfc /scannow

Make sure to have the CD ready (if there is no i386 directory on the HD).
