I need to limit bandwidth to a computer [internet speed] [bro]

Q: I am playing in a match and then my dl starts uploading stuff and demos. and then he gets all the and then my ping goes up to 800 and it was unplayable. So I got his comp next to me. So I really need to do this. I must confine dl to 100kb / s and up to 10kb / s

Best Answer: Most home users don't have the equipment needed to implement Quality of Service (QoS) policies to limit bandwidth. The easiest thing you can do is adjust the options or preferences of that application to limit how much bandwidth its allowed to use.

If by chance you do have a business class router, you want to log into it and turn on its QoS function. Limit the bandwidth to that computer based on an overall percentage, say, 20% maximum, or to an actual number, say, 250kbps.

I remember having this poblem in school. We had a DSL line at our house and when my roomate fired up some p2p program my pings went from 60-80 to 1200-1600. My solution was to randomly disconnect his computer from the hub and play stupid when I heard him coming up the stairs to ask why he lost his connection. He usually would end up quitting his attempt at gathering more pr0n for the night and let me play Tribes in peace.

ahah if I disconnect his he unplugs my computer

I will tell him its network optimizer

i feel your pain :)

however, he may still be able to disable it. Ultimate solution would be to implement QoS on your router.
