Q: I wanted an older game, so it would run on my laptop and deus ex runs great (it also runs natively in widescreen!). What other good games are similar? I played System Shock 2 and thief (also heard thief 1 and 2 made by a company other than the thief 3? Because thief 3 is offered on Steam, but arent February 1.) 0.

Re:the one thing i liked about deus ex, is that it kept the rpg factor to a level i liked. i usually cant stand rpgs with spells and stuff. i hope system shock 2 doesnt have more rpg elements than deus ex. i wish they offered system shock 2 and thief 1/2 on steam.

Re:Try System Shock 2 next. It's harder than Deus Ex and the balancing on RPG elements is different (there's no character interactions, but a crapload of skills and psi powers to try out) but overall it's pretty similar. Took me three times before I finally got into it, and I'm a huge Deus Ex fanboy. Other notable FPS/RPG games are the Lands of Lore Trilogy (avoid the third), Strife (2.5D, but still good), Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines (buggy, but very similar to Deus Ex), and Boiling Point: Road to Hell (think: Deus Ex meets Mafia meets Thief meets poor Russian engineering).

When your done with Deus Ex…..I suggest System shock 2….you won't regret it.

Re:DX2 recieved a less then stellar reception from the fans. It's not a terrible game, but it's been pretty heavily simplified in many ways, so don't go in expecting more of the same. I'd say it wasn't nearly as good myself. No, they are not independent. You can probably put together what happened in DX1 in DX2, but it's far from independent plotwise.
As for games like it, I'm guessing you mean FPS/RPGs. Theif is more of pure sneaking game then being similiar to DX. Similiar games would (albiet at different points on the FPS/RPG spectrum): Dark Messiah of M&M, Stalker, System Shock 2, Vampire: Bloodlines.

Not Quite. Still a good game in its own right.
They are. Unfortunately, it's more of a console port (from XBox?), and does suffer from it. I think there is a texture pack or something for the original available.

Re:Play the Thief's in order. All 3 are great, but I have the fondest memories of Thief 1. If you play Thief 3 first, you'll never be able to go back to 1. Also the story line won't make sense if you do it that way.

System Shock and Thief were both made by Through The Looking Glass studios which went out of business.
Thief 3 is made by another developer, but I think they had some of the T1/2 people on it.
Re:That's a good game, I got every ending when I played, what is there like 5 different ones? heh very good game once you get into it. That was way back in the day of voodoo 2 though I think.
