I want external RAID enclosure [external raid] [raid enclosure]

Q: After much searching, I am annoyed at the choices for external drive enclosures. Im at a point with my gear, I would like a pair of arrays that I can move, because my things are already filled with drives.

It seems that the external things that support RAID too much cost, as hundreds bucks, versus $ 40 for the30-a single disc case. Simply have different markets.

Is a cheaper way to an external array that I can not be seen? I heard just a cable connected to an external SCSI array, but that has the price watch. Is it possible to connect two drives via firewire as a portable raid?

Sorry, just a little frustrated.

Firewire 800 (1394b) / RAID 0, really lets HDs breathe (http://www.barefeats.com/hard51.html) ;)

Gotta love why they don't test the FW800 drives on multiple channels :P

Re:you should look into NAS, that way, you don't have to move things around.

Re:If you're just doing RAID 1 or 0, software stuff would be fine.

Re:I know firewire raid is possible on a mac never looked into it on the pc side though

Might be easier for you to get a SATA raid card with external connections and some eSATA cases

Re:Software raid like netgear sc101 is 99 bucks but slow as hell..

I got the thecus nas unit.. it supports raid 1, what you're talking about requires an processor, so it'll look more like a NAS than a external drive enclosure.

Cheap way.. probably not..

I have an external scsi enclosure that has 0 raid capability.. raid is on the controller..
